Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (10/25/2014) – Chestnut Hill College ended a crazy day of volleyball with thunderous applause as sophomore libero
Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) brought Sorgenti Arena to its feet with a game-winning ace, 3-1 (25-22, 14-25, 25-21, 25-23). The victory over Bloomfield College is the third consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) for the Griffins, who were led by junior
Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.), 18.5 points, and a second straight double-double performance from sophomore
Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.), 13 kills and 17 digs.
The evening began with a competitive opening set, Chestnut Hill College (13-12, 8-6) first leading Bloomfield College (13-11, 9-5) by an 8-2 margin before an 11-6 point-swing forced the Griffins to a timeout, up 14-13. The Bears did not even the set until 22-22, but the rally was all for naught as a hitting error, a kill from Biro, and an ace from junior defensive specialist
Meghan Chiovitti (Brighton, Colo.) won the Griffins the point, 25-23 (1-0). Unfortunately, the momentum did not transfer to the second set as the Bears shot out to an 11-5 lead before a secondary run doubled the margin, 20-8. Eventually the Bears evened the match with a convincing 25-14 win, 1-1, but the third set saw the CACC rivals nearly go point-for-point before a late Griffin run secured the home team a 2-1 edge, 25-21. In the fourth set, the Bears gained an early lead, 7-3, before the Griffins cut the deficit in half by 15-13. Two points later the Griffins tied the match at 15-15. It knotted again at 17-17, 18-18, 19-19, and for the last time just after a Bear timeout, at 23-23. With Sorgenti Arena on its feet, a Biro kill put the Griffins in the catbird seat, 24-23, and allowed a perfectly placed Trabosh serve to end the evening on a climatic 25-23 final, 3-1.
Junior outside hitter Diannmarie Rivera (Trujillo Alto, P.R.) led three Bears in double-digit kills with 19 kills on an impressive .364 (19K-3E-44TA) hitting percentage. Sophomore setter Jacquelyn Madlock (Alta Loma, Calif.) supplied 46 assists and was one of four Bears with double-digit digs. Freshman libero Samantha Rios (Juncos, P.R.) led that group with 29 digs.
Biro recorded 18 kills on a .222 (18K-6E-54TA) hitting percentage and earned her other half-point with a block assist. Junior setter
Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) offered 39 assists and eight digs while Trabosh captained the Griffins defensive effort with 30 digs.
The women's volleyball team continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, October 28, with a 7:00 p.m. match against Wilmington University.
