New Haven, Conn. - (2/26/2014) – With Goldey-Beacom College's Tuesday night, February 25, loss to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South leading, Philadelphia University, the Chestnut Hill College men's basketball reaches CACC postseason play for the sixth straight season. At 10-16 overall and 8-11 in the CACC, the Griffins will serve as the #4 seed in the CACC South for the upcoming
CACC Championship Tournament and, therefore, oppose the top seed from the CACC North, Bloomfield College, in a 2:00 p.m. Opening Round contest on Saturday, March 1.
Bloomfield College (19-7, 17-2) held off Dominican College (18-8, 14-5) and the rest of the CACC North behind the play of junior guard Marvin Williams (Jersey City, N.J.), 13.5 points-per-game (PPG) and 3.5 rebounds-per-game (RPG), and sophomore forward Claude Blue (Brooklyn, N.Y.); 14.6 PPG and 8.2 RPG. Meanwhile, Philadelphia University (22-6, 16-3) did the same to Holy Family University (19-9, 13-6) and the rest of the CACC South behind a balanced six-man rotation that was highlighted by 18.1 PPG and 9.4 RPG from sophomore center Peter Alexis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) and 16.4 PPG from the league's leading three point shooter (68-of-149, .456), junior guard Nick Schlitzer (Pottsville, Pa.).
Chestnut Hill College (10-16, 8-11) was led by graduate guard
Taylor Trevisan (West Chester, Pa.), who was the CACC Player of the Month for December 2013, one-time CACC Player of the Week (2/24/2014), and a two-time CACC Weekly Honor Roll mention (11/11/2013 & 2/4/2014), while averaging 14.8 PPG and 6.3 RPG.
The 2013-2014 CACC Championship Tournament will begin on Saturday, March 1, with games played at the campus of the higher seed.
