Men’s Basketball Battles Déjà Vu in Duel with Devils

2/6/2014 10:48:00 PM

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (2/6/2014) – Mirroring the season's first meeting at Sorgenti Arena, tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at the University of the Sciences (USciences) saw the Devils emerge from a tightly played contest in a runaway fashion, 62-44. After a balanced first-half effort, senior guard Jakeem Bogans (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior center Seamus Radtke (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished the Griffins top performers with 11 points and ten points, respectively.

Bogans ignited Chestnut Hill College (6-14, 4-9) at the contest's start, but over the last ten minutes (9:54) of the first half USciences (12-8, 8-5) whittled a 12-2 Griffin advantage into a mere 20-18 halftime edge. Unfortunately, the Devils momentum continued in the second half as the home team looked to junior forward Garret Kerr (Moorestown, N.J.) and senior guard Tyrone Mann-Barnes (Woodlyne, N.J.) to lead them to the win. By 9:07 the Devils lead reached ten points, 41-31, on a pair of Mann-Barnes free throws and it would max out at 18 points, 60-42, heading to the final minute of play (0:58), before ending by the same spread, 62-44.

Kerr's 13-point, 15-rebound effort led the Devils, who also received a team-high 15 points from Mann-Barnes. Senior forward Patrick Connaghan (Warrington, Pa.) chipped in with seven points, four rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and two steals to the Devil win.

Bogans and Radtke combined for 15 of the Griffins 24 second-half points. Bogans finished with 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists, while Radtke totaled ten points and six rebounds. Graduate guard Taylor Trevisan (West Chester, Pa.) provided seven points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

The men's basketball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Saturday, February 8, when they host Nyack College in a 3:00 p.m. CACC contest.
