But by the end of the night the Griffins extended their recent win streak to three straight, and five of their last six, as they defeated the Knights by a 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-22) final. Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.) led the Griffins with 15 points coming on 13 kills (13K-6E-38TA, .184) and four block assists.
Junior setter Taylor Garrett (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and classmate, right side, Arielle DiCocco (Blue Point, N.Y.) got Queens College (4-3) off to an early lead, forcing Chestnut Hill College (6-6) to a timeout at 11-8. After the break, Biro (seven points) captained a refocused group of Griffins, who matched the Knights at 18-18 before separating for a 25-21 win. Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) the Griffins went up 2-0 with a convincing 25-17 triumph. The third set went more like the first with the Knights pacing the Griffins to a 10-2 deficit before Biro, Trabosh, and the pride knotted the set at 20-20 and won the match on a 25-22 victory.
Garrett provided 31 assists for the Knights, who competed behind 22.5 combined points from DiCocco and senior middle blocker Indoni Francesca (Rome, Italy). DiCocco was responsible for 10.5 points with nine kills (9K-5E-27TA, .148), an ace, and a block assist (.5). She also recorded a team-high 19 digs. Francesca scored 12.5 points with 8 kills, two aces, and 2.5 blocks.
