Newark, Del. - (9/24/2014) – Chestnut Hill College disposed of another Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) in shutout fashion with today's 9-0 defeat of Holy Family University; the Griffins swept doubles play with ease before overcoming the Tigers as individuals.
Holy Family University (3-4, 1-2) provided Chestnut Hill College (4-1, 4-0) mild competition in the opening round of doubles play as the Griffins jumped out to a 3-0 advantage with junior
Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.) and senior
Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa.) winning number two doubles 8-0, senior
Charlotte Dawson (Odessa, Texas) and junior
Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) taking number one doubles 8-2, and junior
Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.) and freshman
Hannah Hills (Maize, Kan.) securing victory at number three doubles 8-3.
Singles play was slightly more competitive with the Tigers taking the Griffins to three sets at number one singles, 6-1, 1-6, 10-4, and forcing a tiebreaker in the first set of number three singles, 7-6 (10-8), 6-4. Fortunately, the Griffins won both points and all the remaining individual flights as Owens won number four singles in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, Craskey claimed number five by the same score, 6-0, 6-0, Williams-Mulesa triumphed in the second singles flight 6-1, 6-0, and Hills proved victorious at number six singles 6-1, 6-1.
The women's tennis team looks for their next CACC victory tomorrow, Thursday, September 25, as they host the University of the Sciences (USciences) in a 4:00 p.m. match.
