Griffins Celebrate Williams-Mulesa Milestone With League Win Over Lady Rams

10/6/2015 7:37:00 PM

Box Score | Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/6/2015) – The Griffins celebrated the 100th win for senior captain Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) in dominate fashion as they followed a brief century ceremony with a 7-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) triumph over rival Philadelphia University. Chestnut Hill College remains perfect on the 2015-2016 season, sweeping the Lady Rams in doubles play and claiming all but number five singles before the sun set on the campus tennis courts.

Prior to the start of this afternoon's league match, Chestnut Hill College Director of Athletics and Recreation Lynn Tubman, Associate Director of Athletics Albert Stroble, and Head Coach Nate Geigle spoke on behalf of Williams-Mulesa, who became the first Griffin to reach the 100-win plateau since Morgan Oechsle '15 booked hers during the 2013 CACC Championship. Williams-Mulesa earned the milestone on Wednesday, September 23, with an 8-0 number two doubles triumph in a 9-0 league win over Caldwell University.

Today, Chestnut Hill College (4-0, 3-0) continued their strong start to the 2015-2016 campaign with another impressive performance. The Griffins breezed through doubles play, securing a 3-0 advantage with an 8-0 win at number two doubles (Scholtze/Williams-Mulesa) and a pair of 8-2 victories at number three (Craskey/Bellon) and number one doubles (Josso/Owens).

The Griffins rolled that momentum into singles play, where they clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-0, number one singles win by junior Laure-Anne Josso (Vannes, France). She was preceded by a 6-1, 6-0, number two singles win from sophomore Lara Scholtze (Bod Homburg, Germany). Williams-Mulesa followed with an identical 6-1, 6-0, win at number three singles, before Philadelphia University (5-2, 2-2) finally got on the scoreboard with junior Emily Chung (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) taking number four singles 6-3, 7-5. The last two individual matches took bit longer as freshman Julia Bellon (Indaiatuba, Brazil) and senior Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.) played into the dusk. Bellon finished off sophomore Carly Ragan (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.) before sun set, 6-1, 6-1, but Craskey's match was left unfinished, 6-2, 4-2.

The women's tennis team breaks from CACC play on Friday, October 9, to join the Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team for a 12:00 p.m. dual match at West Chester University.
