Griffins Split Doubleheader at Felician College; Score Second CACC Win versus Golden Falcons

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Rutherford, N.J. - (9/19/2015) – Chestnut Hill College made the most of a split of this afternoon's matches at Felician College as the Griffins first earned a 3-0 (27-25, 26-24, 25-20) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory, their second in a row, over the hosting Golden Falcons. Later in the day, the Griffins tested their mettle against Lock Haven University, who proved to be the better team with a 3-1 (25-14, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23) win. Versus the Golden Falcons, a trio of sophomore middle hitter Samantha Gelfan (Chandler, Ariz.), senior outside hitter Rachel Biro (Nazareth, Pa.), and junior outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.), who all record double-digit kills off the double-headed direction of senior Alyssa Tamsing (Ventura, Calif.) and freshman setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.). Junior middle hitter Emily Koehler (Bath, Pa.) headlined the Griffin effort against the Bald Eagles with ten kills and four blocks.

Chestnut Hill College (2-10, 2-0) won a fire fight in the opening set opposite Felician College (1-9, 0-1) with senior defensive specialist Deanna Bianchini (Blue Bell, Pa.) serving for the final two points; providing the kill on the second, off a bizarre set from Biro, 27-25. Her classmate, senior defensive specialist Meghan Chiovitti (Brighton, Colo.) matched her effort in the second set, serving the final two points in a 26-24 win. Biro and McBride led the Griffins the rest of the way, as they combined for 24 kills in support of Gelfan, who led scarlet and gold with 14 kills in the match.

Sutton provided 25 assists while Tamsing offered 17. On defense, it was a team effort with four Griffins making at least five digs and five team blocks.

In the second match, versus the Bald Eagles, it was Koehler who provided the Griffins best performance, scoring ten kills, and four blocks (two solo, two assist) in a losing effort. Lock Haven University won the opening set 25-14 and the second 25-21 before the Chestnut Hill College got on the scoreboard with a 25-20 win in the third set. Unfortunately, the Bald Eagles ended the match in four sets, securing a 25-23 win in the concluding frame. 

Behind Koehler, McBride scored nine kills, made 16 digs, and hustled for thee block assists. Sutton was the Griffins' primary distributer with 33 assists while four recorded double-digit digs; the highest total was junior libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.), who recorded 19 digs.

The women's volleyball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Wednesday, September 23, when they welcome Wilmington University for 7:00 p.m. CACC match.
