Box Score Newark, Del. - (9/30/2016) – Chestnut Hill College was down 2-1 after the Wildcats scored respective wins of 25-20 and 25-17 in the second and third sets of this evening's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) at Wilmington University. But with their backs against the wall, the Griffins rallied for a 3-2 (25-19, 20-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-10) league victory with consecutive wins of 25-22 and 15-10 silencing the home crowd. Senior libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) fell just three digs shy of her single-match record (45 vs. Georgian Court University on 10/7/15) and scored three aces. Meanwhile four Griffin strikers finished with double-digit kills off the play of sophomore setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.), who totaled 49 assists in addition to providing seven points with three kills, an ace, and four blocks.

Chestnut Hill College (6-9, 4-3) was on-point early, securing a 25-19 opening-set victory with an efficient .417 (19K-4E-36TA) team hitting percentage. Wilmington University (6-8, 3-2) recovered with a 25-20 win in the second set, fending off an initial 6-2 Griffin advantage with a 17-9 run that forced a Scarlet and Gold timeout at 19-15, Wildcats. Head Coach Kim Kolesnik huddled the Griffins again at 23-18, but the brief respites were not enough to revive her troops.

With the scent of victory in the air, the Wildcats controlled the third set for a 25-17 win. They led the fourth set as late as 17-16, but a pair of miscues put Chestnut Hill College up 18-17 for the ensuing home timeout. Back-to-back points from senior outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) and Sutton really got the ball rolling late for the Griffins, who knotted the match at two all (2-2) on a 25-21 set-final.

With momentum in hand, the Griffins ran away with the deciding set. Chestnut Hill College used another pair of Wildcat errors to gain an early 6-4 advantage that snowballed into a 15-10 triumph behind heavy dose of McBride and Sutton, and a series of closing strikes from senior middle hitter Emily Koehler (Bath, Pa.), freshman outside hitter Reily Byxbee (Indianapolis, Ind.), and junior right side Samantha Gelfan (Chandler, Ariz.).

Junior outside hitter Allison Briley (Monroeville, Pa.) surpassed the Wilmington University all-time kill mark (1,199 kills) in the process of totaling a match-high 19 kills. She also recorded two assists, an ace, 16 digs, and a solo block. The Wildcats totaled 11 aces and 13 blocks while putting five players in double-digit digs.

That was not enough to defeat Chestnut Hill College, who offered McBride (17), Byxbee (14), Koehler (14), and Gelfan (11) in double-digit kills. Sutton (20), McBride (16), and Byxbee (14) joined Trabosh (42) and junior defensive specialist Peyton Reno (Wilmington, Del.) (20) for double-digit digs. It was the first career double-double for Byxbee, who also provided a personal season-high 14.5 points in the match.

The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, October 1, as they return home to host Concordia College (NY) in a 1:00 p.m. CACC match.
