Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/29/2016) – Senior libero
Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) netted a match-high 31 digs for the Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team, but it wouldn't be enough, as visiting Bloomfield College used a balanced offense to take a tightly-contested 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 18-25, 22-25) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match at Sorgenti Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Following a back-and-forth opening to the first set, Chestnut Hill College (10-13, 8-6 CACC) opened up 15-13 advantage, following a kill by freshman outside hitter
Reily Byxbee (Indianapolis, Ind.) off an assist from sophomore setter
Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.). Bloomfield College (18-10, 14-2 CACC) would knot the game at 19, but solid defense by the Griffins, including a set-clinching service ace by senior outside hitter
Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) would give the hosts the 1-0 edge.
The second set saw the visiting Bears open a large lead early and hold off a furious rally by the Scarlet and Gold to earn the 25-20 victory and knot the match at 1-1. Bloomfield College held a 17-12 lead after a kill by freshman middle hitter Alex Morones (Lake Elsinore, Calif.), but the Griffins would respond, cutting their deficit down to just two, 19-21, following a block by junior right side
Samantha Gelfan (Chandler, Ariz.) and sophomore outside hitter
Emma Mull (Jeannette, Pa.). The Bears wouldn't relinquish the lead, however, outscoring the hosts 4-1 down the stretch to secure the 25-20 win.
The Bears used a steady attack in the third stanza to open a lead and never look back, taking the set 25-18. The visitors held an 18-13 lead following a kill from junior outside hitter Paola Noble (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico), forcing the Griffins to take a timeout. A Byxbee kill would trim the deficit to three, 15-18, but the Bears held strong, closing the set on a 7-3 run to secure the victory.
Bloomfield College looked to be sprinting towards an easy 3-1 victory in the fourth set, starting the match on an 11-0 run on the hot serving of junior libero Samantha Rios (Juncos, Puerto Rico). Chestnut Hill College would respond on the service of freshman defensive specialist
Jane Green (Gloucester, Va.), cutting the deficit down to three, 10-13.
The Bears would up their advantage to five, 15-10, following a service ace by senior outside hitter Kourtney Leigh Naki (Kaneohe, Hawaii). The Griffins would again respond on the strong serving of Green, cutting the deficit down to two, 21-23, late, but the visitors proved too strong, with a kill by Noble securing the 3-1 victory.
Gelfan led the attack for the Griffins, scoring 13 kills, three solo blocks and two block assists in the loss. Byxbee continued her strong freshman campaign, finishing with 12 kills, seven digs, one solo block, one block assist and one service ace. Trabosh finishing with 31 digs and one service ace.
Bloomfield College was led by freshman outside hitter Danielle Quintanar (El Paso, Texas), who scored 16 kills. Senior outside hitter Nayade Paulino (Paterson, N.J.) notched 14 kills, with Noble scoring 12 winners of her own.
