Mike West, are pleased to announce the promotional schedule for the upcoming 2016-2017 season. They invite all members of GriffinNation to Sorgenti Arena for an action-packed slate of competition that will be highlighted with a series of charity and appreciation events, designed to support and raise awareness for childhood cancer, military veterans, and heart disease; as well as, recognize the members of the spring 2016 and fall 2016 Chestnut Hill College Athletics Academic Honor Rolls and the graduating members of the Chestnut Hill College men's and women's basketball teams.
Wednesday, November 16: Go4theGoal vs. Georgian Court University (6:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m.)
The Griffins encourage members of GriffinNation to "Lace it Up for Pediatric Cancer" and support Go4theGoal, a charitable organization that battles childhood cancers. Committed to improving the lives of children inflicted with variety of cancers, Go4theGoal provides financial support, developing and implementing unique hospital programs, funding innovative research, and granting personal wishes. Join the Griffins' fight for a good cause and to stop by our Go4theGoal table to show your support.
The Chestnut Hill College men's and women's basketball teams will don gold jerseys, gold shoelaces, and hearts of gold as they battle the Lions of Georgian Court University in respective 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. contests. In addition to accepting donations to Go4theGoal, the Griffins invite members of GriffinNation to share pictures from the event on social media with the tag #G4GLaceUp or by emailing to them to
LaceUp@Go4theGoal.org.
Wednesday, December 7: Military Appreciation Day vs. University of Bridgeport (6:00 p.m.)
December 7, 2016, will mark the 75
th anniversary of the tragic attack on Pearl Harbor. As they challenge the Knights from the University of Bridgeport, the Chestnut Hill College women's basketball team will honor those who served and help raise awareness for the
Philadelphia Veterans House. The Griffins invite veterans from the local and campus community to attend the contest, free of charge, and be recognized for their service and sacrifice. Each veteran that attends the game will receive a camouflage shirt which will also be on sale for $5. All proceeds from the t-shirt sales will be directly donated to the Philadelphia Home for Homeless Veterans. Camouflage wristbands will also be handed out at the door as supplies last.
Tuesday, January 17: CHC Athletic Academic Honor Roll Recognition vs. Holy Family University (6:00 & 8:P00 p.m.)
During halftime of the men's contest, The Chestnut Hill College Department of Athletics will recognize the members of the spring 2016 and fall 2016 Chestnut Hill College Athletics Academic Honor Rolls. These student-athletes have achieved a 3.5 grade point average (GPA) for the respective semester of recognition.
Saturday, January 28: "Red-Out" for Heart Disease vs. Felician University (1:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m.)
About 125 athletes under the age of 35 die from an enlarged heart, or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, each year in the United States. The condition is often missed due to poor medical screening. Therefore, in support of the
American Heart Association (AHA), the Chestnut Hill College men's and women's basketball teams will take a stand against heart disease during their upcoming home games against Felician University with a "Red-Out".
Members of GriffinNation are encouraged to participate and wear red in support of the cause. The men's and women's basketball teams will be selling the official "Red-Out" t-shirts outside the cafeteria prior to the contest. Donations to the cause are also welcome. Saturday, February 11: Senior Day vs. Concordia College (NY) (1:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m.)
A "once-in-a-lifetime" moment for any student-athlete, Senior Days serve as a homage to those Griffins who have devoted so much of their time and energy to their sport. Typically held on the final home game of the season, Senior Days are an opportunity for seniors to be honored one last time in front of their home fans. Prior to the contest on Saturday, February 11, the Chestnut Hill College men's and women's basketball teams will recognize their respective graduating classes and present them with their senior frames.
Tuesday, February 21: Play4Kay vs. Goldey-Beacom College (6:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m.)
An annual event, formerly known as the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) "Pink Zone" and "Think Pink", Play4Kay is an initiative of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women's cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved, and unifying people for a common cause.
The Chestnut Hill College's Play 4Kay fundraiser will cover Sorgenti Arena in pink as student-athletes, coaches, game-day staff, and officials, alike, will don pink t-shirts, shoe laces, and whistles as a sign of solidarity for the fight against women's cancers. A donation box will be present at the admissions table for those who which to monetarily contribute to the initiative. The 2016-2017 Chestnut Hill College basketball season begins on Sunday, November 13, when the women tip-off in a 3:00 p.m. contest against the University of New Haven. The promotional schedule begins with Go4theGoal on Wednesday, November 16, when the Griffins open their respective Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedules with 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. contests opposite Georgian Court University.
