McBride Registers Double-Double as Chestnut Hill College Tops Wilmington University, 3-1

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (11/2/2016) – Chestnut Hill College senior outside hitter Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif.) scored 13 kills and added 25 digs as the Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team earned a crucial Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over Wilmington University, 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-16, 30-28), at Sorgenti Arena on Wednesday night. With the victory, Chestnut Hill College clinches their first CACC Championship Tournament appearance since 2011.
 
The first set saw Wilmington University (9-16, 6-10 CACC) freshman middle hitter Rebecca Rawlinson (Cockeysville, Md.) serve with the visitors trailing 14-12. The Wildcats ripped off seven straight points to take an 18-14 edge, a lead they wouldn't relinquish as they took the first set 25-20.
 
The second stanza saw Chestnut Hill College (11-13, 9-6 CACC) start strong, with the hosts holding a 15-11 lead following a kill by senior middle hitter Emily Koehler (Bath, Pa.). Wilmington University was able to knot the game at 20 apiece, but the Griffins prevailed, with a kill by sophomore setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) clinching the set victory.
 
The third set saw the teams trade points early, with the score sitting at 12-12 following an attacking error by Chestnut Hill College. The Scarlet and Gold would answer, finishing the match on a 13-4 run to take the set victory and a 2-1 edge in the match.
 
The fourth set proved to be one for the ages, as neither team would give an inch. Chestnut Hill College held a slim 16-15 edge following a kill by McBride, but it wouldn't last long as an 8-5 run by the visitors but the score at 23-21 Wildcats. Trailing 24-22, the Griffins showed their defensive prowess, with kills by Koehler and freshman middle hitter Cassie Callahan (Bridgeton, Mo.) knotting the score at 24-24. The Wildcats would get one more opportunity to close out the contest, but the Griffins wouldn't be denied, with a key block by Sutton and junior right side Samantha Gelfan (Chandler, Ariz.) putting the hosts up 29-28. The Griffins were able to clinch the marathon set on the next point, with an attacking error giving the hosts to 30-28 victory in the set and 3-1 victory in the match.

McBride led the Griffins with 13 kills, 22 digs and one service ace. Koehler was second on the squad with 12 kills, while Gelfan registered nine kills, two solo blocks and three block assists
Senior outside hitter Allison Briley (Monroeville, Pa.) led all players with 16 kills on the night, while also recording 15 digs. Rawlinson scored nine winners, one assist, two service aces and five digs, to go along with one solo block and four block assists.
 
Chestnut Hill College will continue CACC play on Friday, November 4, when they host Philadelphia University for senior night. The match begins 5:00 p.m.
