Box Score | Orlando, Fla. - (2/28/2016) – Opening their spring seasons in Orlando, Florida, the Chestnut Hill College men's and women's tennis teams opposed Loyola University in a neutral site dual match this afternoon. Both matches ended in 4-3 finals with the Greyhounds winning the men's side and the Griffins winning the women's side. A shortage of players helped the Griffin women to their first spring victory while the men fell just short of their foe due to the Greyhounds' 2-1 doubles edge.
Sophomores,
Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) and
Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) combined for the only Chestnut Hill College (3-1) doubles win as they triumphed first in the second flight, 8-3. But the Greyhounds gained the advantage with wins of 9-8 (8-3) and 8-2 at number three and number one doubles, respectively.
The Griffin men evened the score with a 6-0, 7-5 number two singles victory from freshman
Pierre Kohler (Les Sables d'Olonne, France), but Greyhound victories at number four singles, 7-6, 6-3, and number six singles, 6-3, 6-3, separated Loyola University for a 4-2 lead in an eventual 4-3 triumph.
The Griffins women earned their 10
th win of the season thanks to their 2-1 doubles advantage. Chestnut Hill College on a head start before earning the doubles edge with an 8-4 number one doubles triumph by senior captain
Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) and sophomore
Lara Scholtze (Bod Homburg, Germany). The singles matches were split, as the Griffins eventually secured the upper hand on Scholtze's 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 win at number two singles. The Scarlet and Gold earned their other points, at number one singles and number six singles, by default.
The Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team and women's tennis team resume play on Tuesday, March 1, when they visit Florida Southern College for respective 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. matches.
