Box Score Wilmington, Del. - (9/14/2016) – Wilmington University used a pair of second half goals to claw past Chestnut Hill College, 2-0, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's soccer action at the WU Athletics Complex this afternoon.
Wilmington University (3-1, 2-0 CACC) started the game quickly, recording three shots in the opening 10 minutes and forcing Chestnut Hill College (1-3, 0-2 CACC) into a defensive posture. Meghan Guagenti (Pennsauken, N.J.) proved up to the challenge, turning the lone shot on goal aside to send the game into halftime knotted at 0-0.
The Wildcats continued to apply pressure early in the second half, with freshman forward Gabrielle Perry (Pemberton, N.J.) giving the hosts the lead in the 54
th minute off a feed from sophomore midfielder Rebecca Dolhansky (Blackwood, N.J.). Wilmington University would double their lead in the 76
th minute when freshman forward Kelly Robbins (Browns Mills, N.J.) ripped a shot off the post, corralled her own rebound and tapped the ball into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead. The teams would trade opportunities over the final 14 minutes, but neither could break through, giving the hosts the 2-0 win.
Guagenti (1-3) turned aside four shots in the defeat with four different Griffins registering a shot in the contest. Wilmington University held an 18-4 edge in shots and a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Wilmington University junior goalkeeper Kierstyn Williams (Middletown, Del.) (3-1) and classmate Martina Stewart (Morganville, N.J.) shared time in net with Perry and Robbins pacing the Wildcats offensively with a goal apiece. Dolhansky chipped in one assist to go along with five shots.
The Chestnut Hill College women's soccer team continues CACC play on Saturday, September 17, with an 11:00 a.m. road contest against Caldwell University.
