Chestnut Hill College Scores Dramatic Win Over Georgian Court University, 3-2

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/16/2016) – Chestnut Hill College used a career-high 18 kills from senior middle hitter Emily Koehler (Bath, Pa.) and 49 assists from sophomore setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) to earn a thrilling 3-2 (25-21, 12-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12) come-from-behind victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Georgian Court University at Sorgenti Arena this evening.
 
Chestnut Hill College (4-6, 2-0 CACC) began the game on a 12-6 run, capped by a block by junior right side hitter Samantha Gelfan (Chandler, Ariz.) and freshman middle hitter Cassie Callahan (Bridgeton, Mo.). Georgian Court University (1-9, 0-1 CACC) responded, going on a 12-0 run on the serve of junior libero Janelli Torres (Canóvanas, P.R.), to take an 18-12 edge. The Griffins would rally, scoring 13 of the next 16 points to clinch the first set, 25-21.
 
The second set saw the Lions take control early and never look back, knotting the contest at 1-1 with a 25-12 victory. Georgian Court University was keyed by senior middle hitter Kelsie Blue (Waretown, N.J.) who notched a .333 hitting percentage (7K-3E-12TA), one solo block and a pair of block assists. Senior outside hitter Jessica Pedroza (Lakehurst, N.J.) was also key in the set, notching five kills to go alone with eight digs.
 
The third set saw the visitors take a 2-1 advantage, clinching a hard-fought 25-23 victory. Blue again paved the way to victory, scoring eight winners to go along with one solo block and three block assists. Sophomore outside hitter Peggy Rosario (Toa Baja, P.R.) led the Lions with nine kills and a team-high 14 digs in the set.
 
The Griffins and Lions stood knotted at six apiece in the fourth set before the Lions stepped up and ripped-off 9-0 run on the hot serving of Torres. Slowly climbing back into the contest late, the Griffins ripped off three straight points to secure the 25-23 victory and send the match into the fifth and deciding set.
 
The fifth set saw the Griffins jump out to a 7-3 advantage before a 9-5 run by the visitors would tie the game at 12-12 late. The Griffins were able to score the last three points of the match off the serve of senior libero Regina Trabosh (Norristown, Pa.) to clinch the 15-12 set victory and the 3-2 match win.

Koehler led the way for the Griffins, hitting .467 (18K-4E-30TA) to go along with seven total blocks. Trabosh led the match with 30 digs and a pair of service aces while Gelfan (11 kills) and sophomore outside hitter Samantha Smith (Harrisburg, Pa.) (12 kills) also reaching double figures.
 
Rosario led the Lions with a 14 Kill 21 dig double-double with Pedroza also scoring a double-double with 12 kills and 21 digs. Blue notched 10 kills and registered seven total blocks to tie the match-high
 
Chestnut Hill College will continue CACC play on Saturday, September 17, when they visit Post University. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
