Box Score Caldwell, N.J. – (1/10/2017) – Tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) decision was earned at the free throw line, where Caldwell University used a near flawless 25-of-26 (.962) performance to overcome Chestnut Hill College in a 73-62 final. Junior
forward Ed McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) led the Griffins with 14 points, scoring all of it in the second half and 12 of it from long range in a 4-of-8 (.500) three point shooting effort.
Chestnut Hill College (4-11, 1-7) trailed Caldwell University (10-6, 5-3) by two points, 32-30, at halftime and by a single point, 56-55, with five minutes (4:52) to play thanks to a fastbreak connection from sophomore forward
Dakpe Yiljep (Samaru-Zaria, Nigeria) to junior guard
Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.). But, the ensuing Cougar possession yielded a pair of free throws, 58-55 (4:26), which snowballed into a 13-4 run and an insurmountable 11-point lead, 69-58 (0:48), late in the game.
Caldwell University and Chestnut Hill College were nearly even from the field (.408-.407) and each made eight three point shots. Still, the Griffins made up for a hand full of additional turnovers (20-15) by outrebounding the home team 34-30. But, the difference came at the free throw line, where junior guard Derek Dorn (New Rochelle, N.Y.) helped facilitate a 15-point discrepancy with his perfect, 10-of-10 (1.000) performance. He and freshman guard Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa.) each finished with 20 points. Fellow freshman guard, Vaughn Covington (Sicklerville, N.J.) offered 11 points, three rebounds, and four assists off the Cougar bench.
After a balanced first half performance, McWade headlined the Griffins' second half performance with his 14 points. He also recorded six rebounds, an assist, and a block. Isaac supported with nine points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals while junior center
Chris Evans (Philadelphia, Pa.) provided quality relief with 12 points, four rebounds, a block, and a steal off the Chestnut Hill College bench.
The Chestnut Hill College men's basketball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Saturday, January 14, for their next CACC engagement. Tip-off versus Bloomfield College is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
