Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. - (1/14/2017) – Chestnut Hill College junior center Chris Evans (Norristown, Pa.) scored a game-high with 19 points, but the balanced Bloomfield College attack proved too much as the Bears toppled the Scarlet and Gold, 72-61, in in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) men's basketball action at Sorgenti Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Bloomfield College (11-6, 6-2 CACC) led from wire-to-wire, opening a six-point (10-4) lead following a layup by junior guard Marcus Fleming (Linden, N.J.) with 15:36 remaining in the period. Chestnut Hill College (4-12, 1-8 CACC) trimmed the deficit down to five points (19-14) following an Evans three-pointer with 10:09 remaining, but that is as close as they would get as the Bears used a solid defensive effort to steadily grow their advantage. The Bloomfield College lead grew to 14 points (34-20) with 1:37 remaining in the frame, but a bucket from Chestnut Hill College freshman forward Keith Williams (Deptford, N.J.) off a beautiful feed from junior guard Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) sent the game into the halftime break with the Griffins trailing by just 11, 36-25.

The Bears shot 40.0 percent (14-of-35) from the field in the half while the Griffins shot 31.4 percent (11-of-35) from the floor as a team.

The Scarlet and Gold opened the second stanza quickly, with an old-fashion three-point play from Evans cutting the deficit down to five (42-37) with 15:39 remaining in the contest. A pair of free throws from Chestnut Hill College sophomore forward Dakpe Yiljep (Samaru-Zaria, Nigeria) with 13:42 remaining in the second half cut the Bears' lead down to two, 44-42, the closest the Griffins had been since trailing by two (6-4) with 16:43 left in the first half. The Bears responded with a run of their own, outscoring the Griffins 16-4 over the next 4:22 to extend their advantage to 14 (60-46) with 9:19 remaining in the half. An Evans jumper sliced the deficit back into single digits (60-52) with 6:09 remaining, but the Bears locked down defensively, holding the Griffins to just nine points over the remainder of the contest, earning the 72-61 victory.

A trio of Bears reached double figures, led by junior forward Nick Davidson (Lumberton, N.J.) who scored 19 points to go along with eight rebounds. Senior guard Ahmid Williams (Monroe, N.J.) (14 points) and junior forward Rakwan Kelly (Newark, N.J.) (10 points) rounded out the Bears in double figures.

Evans led the Griffins with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor, while Williams scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds off the bench. Yiljep also recorded a strong game, tossing in seven points and grabbing six rebounds, including a thunderous put-back slam.

Chestnut Hill College will continue CACC play on Tuesday, January 17, when they host Holy Family University at 8:00 p.m. The Game will be the team's American Heart Association-Red Out for Heart Disease contest as well as the Athletics Academic Honor Roll Recognition ceremony.
