1/24/2017 11:47:00 PM

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (1/24/2017) – After trailing by 12 points at halftime, 37-25, Chestnut Hill College rested neck-and-neck, 58-58, with Philadelphia University with 4:16 remaining in the contest. Unfortunately, the Rams recovered from the Griffin rally, capitalizing on a late turnover and a missed three point attempt with the necessary game clinching free throws in a 75-64 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) final. A combination of juniors, center Chris Evans (Philadelphia, Pa.) and guard Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.), led Chestnut Hill College; they united for 38 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Evans and Isaac totaled 24 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a steal in the first half, where the Philadelphia University (13-7, 9-2) lead grew to as many as 17 points, 27-10 (8:53), behind the play of Brendan Kilpatrick (Norristown, Pa.). The Rams' senior forward totaled 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal in the period, helping the home team separate by 10 points for the first time at 15:05 (12-2). After Philadelphia University's first-half climax, Isaac spirited the Chestnut Hill College (4-15, 1-11) response which narrowed the halftime spread to 12 points, 37-25.

The Griffins still trailed the Rams by 13 points, 53-40, with 9:45 remaining in the second half. That's when Isaac's determination reemerged, first converting an old fashion three-point play before locating sophomore guard Liban Awl (Manassas, Va.) for a three pointer that cut the Philadelphia University lead to seven points, 53-46, at 8:51. An Isaac steal and a Ram foul put the Scarlet and Gold point guard at the free throw line just seconds later (8:41). He converted those free throws, further cutting the Ram advantage to just five points, 53-48. It remained there after the first of two free throws from junior guard Kaison Randolph (Trenton, N.J.) at 6:44. A little more than two minutes later (4:16), Awl hit two of three free throws to even the spread, 58-58, between Chestnut Hill College and their cross-city rival. Unfortunately, Philadelphia University regained the edge, using a turnover and a missed three point shot to own a 62-58 lead with two minutes (2:04) remaining in the contest. From there, the Rams hit the necessary free throws to precipitate a 75-64 final.

Kilpatrick led Philadelphia University with 21 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and two steals. Senior guard Andre Gibbs (Smyrna, Del.) and freshman guard Kylan Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) helped with 18 points and 17 points, respectively. Randolph finished with nine points, nine rebounds, two assists, and three blocks.

Evans was 9-of-18 (.500) from the field – with a three pointer (1-of-5, .200) – and two free throws (2-of-2, 1.000). He added three rebounds and a steal to his team-high 21 points. Isaac finished with 17 points, four rebounds, four assists, and a steal. He was 5-of-11 (.455) from the field and hit all seven of his free throws (7-of-7, 1.000). Awl offered nine points, four rebounds, an assist, and a steal.

The Chestnut Hill College men's basketball team plays next on Saturday, January 28, when they host Felician University in a 3:00 p.m. CACC contest.
