Jefferson University and Chestnut Hill College Split, Lady Rams Win Second CACC Summit by 3-0 End

Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (10/31/2017) – Chestnut Hill College continued their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) with tonight's match at Jefferson University. The Lady Rams got revenge on the Griffins, taking the second match of the meeting of CACC South Division rivals by a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-19) final. The home team used early leads to pace the Scarlet and Gold in each of the three sets. Freshman outside hitter Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was the Griffins' top scorer with 11.5 five on 10 kills and three block assists, meanwhile senior libero Peyton Reno (Wilmington, Del.) scored a pair of aces and captained the defense with 18 digs.
 
Jefferson University (20-6, 15-1) separated in the opening set on a seven-point service run from freshman middle hitter Logan Dontell (Red Lion, Pa.). The run pushed the Lady Rams to a 10-3 edge over Chestnut Hill College (8-20, 7-9); a seven-point advantage that they did not relinquish in an eventual 25-19 win (1-0). The deficit grew to 2-0 with a 25-16 Jefferson University win in the second set. There, the Lady Rams overcame an early 6-3 Chestnut Hill College edge to lead by as many as 10 points, 16-6, before a claiming the frame by a 25-16 spread (2-0). The Griffins paced the Lady Rams to a 6-6 tie in the third set, but this time the home side gradually pulled away to a 25-19 end (3-0).
 
Three Lady Rams reached double digit kills; junior outside hitter Courtney Wensel (Bechtelsville, Pa.) and senior middle hitter Corinne Justus (Allentown, Pa.) headlined the trio with 15 kills apiece. Junior setter Alexandra Harrington (St. Leonard, Md.) offered 42 assists in excess of two kills, an ace, and eight digs, while freshman libero led trio of double digit diggers with 21.
 
Junior setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) helped Kalala to her seventh double digit kills performance of the season with 19 assists. She also recorded a kills, six digs, and a block assist. Sophomore outside hitter Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) was the other Griffin to record double digit digs, hustling to 10 in addition to six kills and an assist.
 
The Chestnut Hill College women's volleyball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Saturday, November 3, when they host Post University in a 1:00 p.m. CACC match.
