Philadelphia, Pa. - (10/7/2017) – This time it was
Nicola Guzowska (Poznan, Poland) who scored the Griffins' lone point as the sophomore rallied from a 6-3 loss with consecutive wins of 7-5 and 10-6 at number two singles. Unfortunately, the victory was not enough to deliver Chestnut Hill College the same fate as the University of the Sciences (USciences) claimed the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match by an 8-1 final.
USciences (4-4, 3-4) opened with three doubles victories in reverse order as they won number three doubles 8-2, number two doubles 8-4, and number one doubles by retirement, despite trailing Chestnut Hill College's (1-4, 1-4) top team - sophomores
Barbara Broville (Toulouse, France) and
Mia Covic (Novi Sad, Serbia) - by a 5-4 score. Unfortunately, in singles play, Guzowska's win only delayed the Devils' win, as the home team scored points at number one (6-0, 6-2) and number three (6-1, 6-4) singles, before her victory at number two singles (3-6, 7-5, 10-6). The Devils eventually clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-4 win at number four singles. Their final points respectively came at number five (8-0) and number six (8-1) singles.
The Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, October 8, when they visit Concordia College (NY) for a 1:00 p.m. CACC match.
