Wilmington, Del. - (9/19/2017) – Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play continued today, Tuesday, September 19, for the Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team, who visited Wilmington University for an afternoon match. The Griffins scored the final point of each round at the top flights; sophomores,
Nicola Guzowska (Poznan, Poland) and
Barbara Broville (Toulouse, France) won the number one doubles match 8-6, before sophomore
Mia Covic (Novi Sad, Serbia) concluded the match with her 6-1, 6-1, at number one singles.
Wilmington University (2-3, 1-0) took an early edge, collecting the first two points of the match with respective 8-2 and 8-5 victories at number three and number two doubles. But Chestnut Hill College (0-2, 0-2) cut the deficit to one point, 2-1, for singles play with Guzowska and Broville's win (8-6) at number one doubles.
Unfortunately, the Griffins were not able to sustain as Wildcats points quickly added up. Wins at number four (6-0, retired), number six (6-0, 6-0), and number five (6-1, 6-0) singles clinched the match for the home side. They followed with additional points at number two (6-2, 6-2) and number three (6-3, 6-4) singles before Covic scored her victory (6-1, 6-1) at number one singles.
The Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team competes next at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region Championships, which will be co-hosted by Queens College and Adelphi University this weekend, Saturday, September 23 through Monday, September 25.
