Griffins Give Way to Lightning in CACC Affair

Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (10/10/2018) – Chestnut Hill College had the task of defending their home field against Goldey-Beacom College in tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest. Unfortunately, the Lightning challenged the Griffins with a 34-9 shot advantage scoring two goals in each half, leaving the home team scoreless, 4-0.

A Goldey-Beacom College (11-3, 8-1 CACC) penalty kick, at 15:57, put Chestnut Hill College (2-9-1, 1-7-1) at an early disadvantage, 1-0. The Lightning did not give the Griffins much space to respond as they followed up with a second goal at 21:21, 2-0.  Freshman defender Haley Oneill (Langhorne, Pa.), junior midfielder Sabrina Shinkowitz (Stratford, N.J.), and senior midfielder Molly Sullivan (Pasco, Wash.) all attacked the visitors net, but were unsuccessful. Despite Goldey-Beacom College's 34-9 (15-3) shot advantage, the Scarlet and Gold's defense combated the offensive pressure redirecting 17 of their attempts. Unfortunately, the Lightning's assaults eventually wore on the Griffins in the second half, resulting in two more goals, 4-0. The Griffins struggled getting to the net, resulting in a 4-0 final.

Senior midfielder Cliona Crammond (Wicklow, Ireland) scored half of Goldey-Beacom College's four goals, along with nine shots and one assist.  Senior midfielder Sophie Woods (Burnley, England) (2 shots) and junior midfielder Jenna Fannon (Newark, Del.) (5 shots) recorded one goal each, while freshman forward Melayna Immediato (Hockessin, Del.) (4 shots), sophomore forward Taylor Owen (Pittsburgh, Pa.) (1 shot), and junior midfielder Samantha Carey (Marilla, N.Y.) (1 shot) all recorded one assist. Senior goalkeeper Marta Lopez (Valencia, Spain) made five saves.

Oneil, Shinkowitz, and sophomore forward Gabby Fanfarillo (Glassboro, N.J.) all offered Chestnut Hill College two shots each, followed by one shot from Sullivan and sophomore midfielder Marisa Murphy (Philadelphia, Pa.). Sophomore goalkeeper Paris Banks (Philadelphia, Pa.) gave a six saves performance, while junior goalkeeper Leah Peshkin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) collected four saves.
