Peshkin’s All-Time Program Record Not Enough To Fend Off Bears

Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (10/22/2018) – Junior goalkeeper Leah Peshkin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) broke the Chestnut Hill College All-Time record in saves (19) during today's non-league matchup against New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). Unfortunately, her saves were not enough to hold off the Bear's 38 (38-8) shot attempts, taking the 3-0 loss. Tonight's contest also kicked off the first-of-five Alzheimer's Awareness Games, where the ladies showed their support by sporting purple gear to raise awareness for the disease.

13005In the first half, NYIT (9-5-2) pressured Chestnut Hill College's (3-12-1) defense by letting off 26 (26-2) shots attempts. Peshkin made a gallant effort in keeping the Griffins afloat with 12 saves, but at 29:57, the Bear's attempts finally prevailed, recording the contest's first tally (1-0). Then at 39:13, a long shot to the top right corner gave NYIT a two-point cushion on the Scarlet and Gold, 2-0.

Less than 10-minutes (54:37) into the second half, NYIT added their third and final goal after the Griffins lost a one-on-one battle at the top of the box, 3-0.  Chestnut Hill College had a promising opportunity at, 70:42, to leave the field with one notch after a power strike from junior midfielder Sabrina Shinkowitz (Stratford, N.J.) targeted the high right corner. Unfortunately it was denied by the Bear's keeper, finalizing the 3-0 affair.

Graduate defender Taylor Casey (East Hartford, Conn.), sophomore forward Casey Luongo (Center Moriches, N.Y.), and freshman midfielder Maggie Thibault (Baldwin, N.Y.) all recorded one goal each for NYIT.  Senior goalkeeper Jessie Sabal (Valley Stream, N.Y.) made three saves in the win.

Peshkin's 19 saves broke Chestnut Hill College's all-time record of 18 saves in a single game, previously held by Meghan Guagenti (Pennsauken, N.J.).  The keeper recorded 12 saves in the first half and seven saves in the second half to reach her milestone.  Senior midfielder Marikate O'Toole (Philadelphia, Pa.) led in shot attempts with three, while Shinkowitz followed with two recorded shots.

Chestnut Hill College will celebrate their Senior Day and host the last game of the season on Saturday, October 27, against Daemen College at 12:00 p.m.
