Sergio Hernandez (Ossinging, N.Y.) produced a game-high 10 saves.
Hernandez was challenged throughout the first half and survived 14 of Mercy College's (10-2-1) shot attempts (15-3). Despite the keeper's efforts, at 42:14, the Maverick's assaults finally wore on Chestnut Hill College (7-10), ending the half 1-0. Mercy College came back on the field in the second half scoring two goals in under four-minutes (56:35, 59:30) of one another, 3-0. The Griffins got on the board after freshman defender
David Cortez (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) made a serve from the left side reaching Doherty who planted the ball past the keeper, 3-1. Despite the slight interruption by the Scarlet and Gold, Mercy College added three more goals (80:40, 83:21, 89:17) by the end of the half, ending the affair 6-1.
Senior midfielder Alejandro Alvarez (Pereira, Colombia) headlined Mercy College with two goals (4 shots), followed by junior midfielder Maximiliano Rebolledo-Camus (Santiago, Chile) (6 shots), junior defender Gaston Rozenblum (Buenos Aires, Argentina) (3 shots), junior forward Ignacio Mangada (Alicante, Spain) (3 shots), freshman defender Kevin Aguilar (Bronx, N.J.) all scored one goal each. Freshman forward Ryan Sipavicius (Flushing, N.Y.) recorded three assists and senior midfielder Mariglen Verjoni (Cornwall, N.Y.) logged one assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Williams (Newton, N.J.) (1 save) and senior goalkeeper Mahamed Keita (Bronx, N.Y.) (5 saves) shared the net in the win.
Doherty led Chestnut Hill College with four shots and one goal, while Cortez recorded one assist. Hernandez took the loss (4-6) with 10 saves.
Chestnut Hill College will play their last regular season game on Thursday, October 25, against NYIT.
