Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (10/3/2018) – Chestnut Hill College came together and defeated their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Holy Family University, 2-1, in tonight's contest. Senior midfielder
Tyler Johnson (Howell, N.J.) tallied the Griffin's first half goal, while junior midfielder
Pedro Dutra (Passos, Brazil) supplied the second security goal in the latter frame. Junior goalkeeper
Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) made six saves in the win (1-2).
Despite Holy Family University's (4-8, 4-3) 8-5 shot advantage in the first period, Johnson capitalized off one of Chestnut Hill College's (4-7, 3-4) opportunities, sailing a free kick in the back of the Tiger net at 30:59. The Griffin defense worked cohesively to shut down any of the Tigers' attacks during the remainder of the first half. The Griffins entered the field hungry in the second half, searching for another goal to secure their edge. That time came at 64:14, where sophomore defender
Matt Kehr (Exton, Pa.) chipped the ball ahead to Dutra who won the one-on-one battle with the keeper, 2-0. This gave the Scarlet and Gold the comfort they needed for the remainder of the affair as the Tigers did manage to log one goal at 87:09, but it was not enough to take down the Griffins, 2-1.
Sophomore midfielder Matthew Flanagan (Philadelphia, Pa,) led Holy Family University with one goal on one shot, while sophomore midfielder Mohamed Elgayar (Philadelphia, Pa) recorded one assist. Sophomore midfielder Mike Smith (Southampton, Pa.) logged the most Tiger shots with four, followed by multiple attempts from junior defender Shane Holmes (Philadelphia, Pa.) (3), sophomore midfielder Prince Komoh (Monrovia, Liberia) (2). Junior goalkeeper Mark Tobin (Philadelphia, Pa.) took the loss (4-5) with four saves.
Johnson's only shot attempt resulted in the contest's first goal and Dutra led the Griffins with his goal and three shots. Senior midfielder
Tales Domingues (Sao Paulo, Brazil) (2 shots), senior forward
Jason Burns (Douglassville, Pa.) (1), junior defender
Andrew Johnstone (Liverpool, England) (1), senior forward and
Jason Doherty (Letterkenny Donegal, Ireland) (1) also logged attempts on goal.
Chestnut Hill College continues CACC play on Saturday, October 6, when they travel to Dominican College for a 2:30 p.m. matchup.
