Box Score Philadelphia, Pa. – (10/3/2018) – Chestnut Hill College returned to Sorgenti Arena tonight, Wednesday, October 3, to host Georgian Court University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match. The Griffins hit .229 (12K-4E-35TA) to claim the opening set by a 25-17 margin. Unfortunately, the Lions matched that measure in the second (25-17) and third (25-17) set, before completing their comeback with a 25-23 victory if the fourth set (3-1; 17-25, 25-17, 25-17, 25-23). Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) led the Scarlet and Gold with 15.5 points, totaling 15 kills on a .316 (15K-3E-38TA) hitting percentage and a block assist.
Chestnut Hill College (5-12, 3-6) scored the first seven points of the match on the service of freshman defensive specialist
Kerri Sullivan (West Brandywine, Pa.), 7-0. The advantage was enough insurance for the Griffins to keep pace over Georgian Court University (13-5, 9-1) in a 25-17 set-victory, 1-0. But the Scarlet and Gold's fortune soon turned sour as the Lions nearly led the whole way in the process of claiming the second and third sets by the same 25-17 score, 2-1. The fourth set was neck-and-neck until the Lions secured a slight 20-15 edge that was enough for them to eventually end the match with a 25-23 set-victory, 3-1.
Junior right side Shana Rayside (Lakewood, N.J.) led Georgian Court University with 15.5 points as she added four digs to her 15 kills and a block assist. Sophomore outside hitter Aubrey Binkley (Toms River, N.J.) and junior right side Amy Bruno (Barnegat, N.J.) totaled 10.0 points apiece; the former recorded 10 kills, an assist, and 13 digs, while the latter offered nine kills and two block assists. Sophomores, Ashley Pierson (Rogersville, Mo.) and Jaime Sweeney (Toms River, N.J.) split setting responsibilities for the Lions. Pierson recorded 22 assists in excess of three aces and six digs, while Sweeney totaled 18 assists in addition to an ace and a dozen (12) digs. Four Lions finished with double digit digs; chief among them was junior libero Gabby Merced (Tom River, N.J.), who offered 19.
Bxybee's 15 kills completed her seventh double of the season as she also recorded 11 digs. Freshman right side
Lauren Lipinski (Gilbert, Ariz.) also recorded double digit points for Chestnut Hill College with eight kills and two aces. She also registered an assist and five digs. Senior setter
Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) contributed 31 assists, an ace, 10 digs, and a block assist, while junior middle hitter
Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.) led four Griffins with double digit digs with 20. She also recorded seven kills, three assists, an ace, and two block assists.
