Philadelphia, Pa. - (3/19/2018) – Competing for the first time this spring, the Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team joined the men for an afternoon dual match at National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I institution, St. Joseph's University. The Griffins used victories at number two (6-1) and number three (7-5) doubles to earn the team point, but the Hawks fared better as individuals and turned the tables for a 6-1 triumph.
St. Joseph's University (2-8) was victorious at number one doubles, 6-3, but Chestnut Hill College (2-7) triumphed in the second and third flights to secure the round. Sophomore
Mia Covic (Novi Sad, Serbia) and junior
Daniela Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) earned the Scarlet and Gold point at number two doubles, posting a 6-1 victory over their Hawk counterparts. Meanwhile, junior
Julia Bellon (Indaiatuba, Brazil) and sophomore
Nicole Yang (Blue Bell, Pa.) added the second Griffin doubles point by winning 7-5 in the third flight.
Unfortunately, Chestnut Hill College was not able to continue their success in singles play, where St. Joseph's University swept competition and completed the match in a 6-1 end. The Hawks won number one singles 6-3, 6-1, number two singles 6-1, 6-2, number three singles 6-0, 6-2, number four singles, 6-3, 6-2, number five singles, 6-1, 6-1, and number six singles, 6-1, 6-0.
The Chestnut Hill College men's and women's tennis teams co-host Millersville University tomorrow, Friday, March 23, in a 2:00 p.m. dual match.
