Men's Box Score | Women's Box Score | Philadelphia, Pa. - (3/26/2018) – Taking advantage of a sunny afternoon, Chestnut Hill College hosted Millersville University in today's dual match. The Griffins earned wins in both competition as the Chestnut Hill College women tennis team earned their third win of the season in a 7-2 final and the Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team improved to 6-3 with their 9-0 triumph over the Marauders.
The Chestnut Hill College (6-3) men's tennis team took the catbird seat with three consecutive doubles win over their Millersville University (1-9) counterparts. The middle flight finished first as freshman
Jesus Darias (Bolivar, Venezuela) and sophomore
Antoine Gautier (Eysines, France) combined for an 8-1 victory at number two doubles. Seniors,
Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) and
Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) number one doubles by the same score, 8-1, but number three doubles was the second team match to come to fruition with senior
Felix Andre (Berlin, Germany) and sophomore
Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) taking number three doubles by an 8-3 margin.
The Griffins carried their success to singles play, where they completed the shutout of the Marauders with six straight wins. Andre was first, ending number one singles with a 6-1, 6-1, score. Gautier was next, providing the match-clincher at number three singles, 6-1, 6-2. Additional Griffin points were scored at number two (7-5, 6-4), number five (8-0), number four (8-2), and number six (8-2) singles with respective wins from Darias, Gavin, Regalin, and freshman
David Villarroel (Cochabamba, Bolivia).
The Chestnut Hill College (3-7) women's tennis team started off their match down a point as Millersville University (0-12) concluded number one doubles with an 8-3 score. But the Griffins, recovered with junior
Julia Bellon (Indaiatuba, Brazil) and sophomore
Nicole Yang (Blue Bell, Pa.) combining for an 8-5 win at number three doubles and sophomore
Mia Covic (Novi Sad, Serbia) and junior
Daniela Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) teaming for an 8-4 win at number two doubles.
Success continued in singles for the Scarlet and Gold as respective wins at number two (6-1, 6-1), number three (6-0, 6-2), and number one (6-1, 6-4) from sophomore
Nicola Guzowska (Poznan, Poland), sophomore
Barbara Broville (Toulouse, France), and Covic. Chestnut Hill College added to their margin of victory with following wins at number five (6-0, 6-0) and number four (6-0, 6-3) singles from Siqueira and Bellon, respectively. But the Marauders narrowed the final spread with their concluding 9-7 win in the sixth individual flight.
The Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team competes next on Friday, March 30, when they join the men for an 11:00 a.m. match at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). Prior to that, the men's tennis team opens their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Wednesday, March 28, when they host Jefferson University in a 3:00 p.m. match.
