Men's Box Score | Women's Box Score | West Chester, Pa. - (4/10/2018) – The final dual match of the season for the Chestnut Hill College tennis teams brought the Griffins to West Chester University this afternoon. The Scarlet and Gold endured a 7-2 loss on the women's side, where sophomores,
Barbara Broville (Toulouse, France) and
Nicola Guzowska (Poznan, Poland) concluded the match with the only Griffins points at number two (6-4, 7-5) and number three (7-6, 6-0) singles, respectively. However, Chestnut Hill College did split the twin bill as the men only lost number one singles (6-0, 6-2) in an 8-1 triumph.
West Chester University (6-8) was able to secure the women's match before Chestnut Hill College (4-9) scored a point. They swept the doubles round in order, winning 8-2 at number one, 8-4 at number two, and 8-6 at number three. Their success bled into the individual round where the match was clinched with Golden Ram wins at number five (6-2, 6-2) and number one (6-2, retired) singles. They expanded their lead to 6-0 with a 6-2, 6-3, win at number four singles and later 7-0 with a 7-5, 6-3, win at number six singles before Broville and Guzowska won their respective points in the number two (6-4, 7-5) and number three (7-6, 6-0) flights.
The Men's match was nearly a mirror image as Chestnut Hill College (9-5) swept the team round and clinched before West Chester University (0-12) could score a point with wins at number two (6-3, 6-1) and number three (6-1, 6-0) singles. Senior
Felix Andre (Berlin, Germany) and sophomore
Adam Gavin (Gothenburg, Sweden) got the Griffins started with their 8-3 win at number three doubles and were followed by an 8-5 number one doubles win by seniors,
Lucas Bocaletto (Itatiba, Brazil) and
Pedro Festugato Regalin (Caxias do Sul, Brazil), and a 8-6 number two doubles win by freshman
Jesus Darias (Bolivar, Venezuela) and sophomore
Antoine Gautier (Eysines, France). As play moved to singles, Bocaletto and Gautier provided the match-winning points, respectively succeeding in the number two (6-3, 6-1) and number three (6-1, 6-0) individual matches. Soon after, Gavin's 6-1, 6-0, win at number five singles increased the Griffin lead to 6-0, then Regalin's 6-1, 6-1, triumph at number four singles made it 7-0, before freshman
David Villarroel (Cochabamba, Bolivia) added the eighth Chestnut Hill College point with his 6-2, 6-2, win at number six singles. The Golden Rams concluded the match with their only point, winning the number one singles flight by a 6-0, 6-2, final.
The Chestnut Hill College women's tennis team concludes their 2017-2018 season on Tuesday, April 17, when they visit East Stroudsburg University for a 3:30 p.m. match. Meanwhile, the men's team returns to their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule on Friday, April 13, with a 3:30 p.m. Senior Day match against Concordia College (NY).
