Rochester, N.Y. – (9/1/2018) – Chestnut Hill College opened their season today, Saturday, September 1, with an afternoon affair at Roberts Wesleyan College. There, the Redhawks welcomed the Griffins with a pair of early goals and an eventual 4-0 loss. Freshman midfielder

Geena DiRugeris (Woodbury, N.J.) led the Griffins with two shots apiece, while freshmen
Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.) and
Haley Oneill (Langhorne, Pa.) were responsible for the other two Scarlet and Gold strikes.
Roberts Wesleyan College (1-1) wasted little time asserting themselves on their home field, netting early goals at 3:24 (1-0) and 6:59, 2-0. Junior forward Taylor Rutland (Kent, N.Y.) provided the assist on each of the Redhawk first two tallies, first finding sophomore midfielder Selena Beller (Castorland, N.Y.) and later junior defender Olivia Avery (West Seneca, N.Y.). Roberts Wesleyan College extended their advantage over Chestnut Hill College to 3-0 at 38:44, when junior forward Tiffany Melendez (Grand Island, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Mckennzie Pursell (Chili, N.Y.) connected in the Griffin goal box. Kayla Lombardi (South Amboy, N.Y.) relieved junior
Leah Peshkin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) in the second half, but the Redhawks continued to control the affair and added to their lead with a fourth goal, 4-0, at 64:28.
Junior midfielder Israela Groves (Pickering, Ontario) scored the last of the Robert Wesleyan College tally. She led the Redhawks with four shots. Junior Kelsey Brinkel (Rochester, N.Y.) and sophomore Madison Lamarche (Cohoes, N.Y.) split time in goal; Brinkel earned the win (1-1) with two saves in the opening period.
Likewise, Peshkin (0-1) and Lombardi split time in goal for Chestnut Hill College; the former recorded four of the Griffins' six saves in the opening 45 minutes (45:00).
Chestnut Hill College continues their schedule on Wednesday, September 5, when they host The Lincoln University in a 7:00 p.m. home opener at Victory Field #1.
