Lafayette, Pa. - (9/5/2018) – Chestnut Hill College put the pressure on Lincoln University for a whole 90-minutes in their home opener at Lafayette Hill tonight, outshooting them 32-5. The Griffins accumulated a high number of shot attempts but the two goals from junior midfielder
Sabrina Shinkowitz (Stratford, N.J.) and one goal from junior forward
Nicole Cahill (Glendora, N.J.) were all they needed to defeat the Lions, 3-1.
Lincoln University (0-3) took the upper-hand in the first six minutes scoring the first goal of the affair, at 6:06, 1-0. This did not intimidate Chestnut Hill College (1-1), who did not shy away from the net. The Scarlet and Gold put the next 10 shots with Shinkowitz capitalizing off of a Lion's error, rebounding the ball and driving it into the back of the net just before the 40-minute mark (39:57), 1-1. The score remained deadlock into the second half.
The Griffins continued their rain of assaults in the second half adding six more shots to the board before Shinkowitz found her spacing for a clear drive at the Lion net sat 68:26, 2-1. Chestnut Hill College then kicked it into overdrive, keeping the Lions on their toes with nine more shots until Cahill chased down a loose ball and chipped it right over the keepers head at 86:42, 3-1.
Freshman forward Kenya Davis (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) recorded the Lion's only goal. Junior goalkeeper Lena Rodriquez (Lockport, Ill.) (0-3) made 13 saves in the loss.
Shinkowitz successfully landed both her shot attempts, while Cahill took seven attempts to record her one goal. Sophomore forward
Gabby Fanfarillo (Glassboro, N.J.) and freshman forward
Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.) led the Griffins with eight shots apiece. Junior goalkeeper
Leah Peshkin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) earned the win (1-1) with two saves.
Chestnut Hill College hosts Bloomfield College on Saturday, September 8 for their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
