Second Half Penalty Shot Sends Clippers Past Griffins

Lafayette Hill, Pa. – (9/15/2018) – Chestnut Hill College was first on the scoreboard in today's highly offensive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest versus Concordia College (NY). However, the Clippers scored the final goal in a 3-2 final, using a penalty kick at 50:44 to separate for the victory. Freshman forward Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.) scored both Scarlet and Gold goals, netting the first on a wide angle shot from the right flank just over a minute into the affair (1-0, 1:01) and the second on a long cross from freshman midfielder Madison Taylor (Bensalem, Pa.) at 16:49 (2-1).

Chestnut Hill College (2-3, 1-2) scored on their first shot of the contest as Jimenez made a great individual effort to bury a shot from the far right side, 1-0 (1:01). But seven minutes later (8:00), Concordia College (1-3, 1-2) matched the tally; senior midfielder Lisa Lausen (Barstow, Calif.) thread a needle through the Griffin defense to find junior forward Sara Calvert (Apple Valley, Calif.) for an equalizer (1-1). Offense continued to be the theme of the first half with the Scarlet and Gold recovering the lead, 2-1, on a Taylor-Jimenez connection at 16:49 and the Clippers evening it once again (2-2) at 28:09 on a Calvert rebound goal. There were 28 first half shots in all with Chestnut Hill College leading the way 17-11. The Griffins continued to outshoot the Clippers in the second half, unfortunately a foul inside the goal box at 50:44 presented the visitors with a penalty kick. Sophomore midfielder Kayla Lanza (New Milford, Conn.) capitalized on the free kick for the eventual game-winner (3-2).

Calvert led Concordia College, scoring twice on seven shots. Lanza totaled four shots, while two others recorded at least two of the Clippers 18 shots. Freshman goalkeeper Jocelyn Hellier (Lithia, Fla.) recorded 13 saves in the win (1-2).

Jimenez headlined the Chestnut Hill College offensive efforts, scoring her two goals on eight shots. Sophomore forward Gabby Fanfarillo (Glassboro, N.J.) added five shots and junior forward Sabrina Shinkowitz (Stratford, N.J.) provided another three, while five others attempted at least two. In goal, junior Leah Peshkin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) and sophomore Paris Banks (Philadelphia, Pa.) each played a half; Peshkin made seven of the Griffins' 10 saves in the first half, while Banks took the loss (0-1) with the other three.
