Griffins Sweep Bloomfield College In CACC Contest

Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/19/2018) – Chestnut Hill College defeated Bloomfield College in a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-22) sweep tonight at Sorgenti Arena, giving the home team their second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win. Junior middle hitter Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.) and classmate outside hitter Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) led the Griffins with ten kills each in the victory.

Senior setter Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.) went on a four-point serving stretch that gave Chestnut Hill College (4-8, 2-3 CACC) an early 4-0 advantage in the first period. Also, Callahan recorded seven of her 10 kills which only strengthened the Griffins numbers against Bloomfield College (0-15, 0-4 CACC). There were no signs of the Bears clawing their way out of their rut, ending the set 25-16.The second period mirrored the first, as the Scarlet and Gold held the Bears under 20-points. The visiting team put up a fight closing the margin to two (20-18) points, but Chestnut Hill College proved superior concluding the period 25-19.

In the last set, the Bears were looking for a last minute upset, earning their biggest lead of the night 13-16. This did not rattle the Griffins as they gained back the lead at 21-19, forcing Bloomfield College into a timeout.  Out of the timeout Chestnut Hill College took care of business sending the Bears home winless, 25-22.

Sophomore middle blocker Ashley Stroot (Rolesville, N.C.) led Bloomfield College with 10 kills, one assist, and three digs, while junior outside hitter Danielle Quintanar (El Paso, Texas) and junior setter Juliette Tygret (Gilbert, Ariz.) tallied six and five kills respectively.  Freshman setter Laityn Sarna (Las Vegas, Nev.) finished with 24 assists, four kills, and five digs.

Callahan recorded a .250 (10K-3E-28TA) attack percentage, two assists, and 16 digs, followed by a second 10 kill performance by Byxbee who also logged one assist and 15 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Ragen Baldwin (Lancaster, Pa.) chipped in nine kills, while freshman right side Lauren Lipinski (Glibert, Ariz.) added three kills herself. Sophomore Mykayla Milchling (Baltimore, Md.) and Sutton both totaled two kills each. Sutton also tallied 24 assists.
