Bloomsburg, Pa. – (9/4/2018) – Chestnut Hill College set out on the road for the first time, traveling to Bloomsburg University for this evening's match. The Griffins put forth their best effort in the first set, keeping pace with the Huskies as late as 22-22 before dropping the frame 25-22. The home team used the momentum to end the match in three sets as they defeated the Scarlet and Gold by a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-12) final. Sophomore outside hitter
Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led the Griffins in points (7.0) thanks to 17 assists from senior setter
Kennedy Sutton (Chesapeake, Va.).
Sutton found sophomore right side
Mykayla Milchling (Baltimore, Md.) with three of her six assists in the first set, but Chestnut Hill College (1-2) narrowly tailed Bloomsburg University (2-3) until landing a 12-12 tie. A bad set gave the Griffins a brief 13-12 advantage, but Huskies recovered the lead, 14-13, and paced the Scarlet and Gold to a 22-22 stalemate. Milchling killed the tying point, but a service error and a pair of kills from freshman outside hitter Mary Kate Mooney (Royersford, Pa.) escorted the home team to the win, 25-22. The second set was tight was well with the Griffins trailing by one point as late as 15-14. Unfortunately, Bloomsburg University scored 10 of the last 13 points, 25-17, to put Chestnut Hill College in a 2-0 hole. From there the momentum was too much for the Griffins to overcome. The Huskies dominated the final set, leading by as many as 15 points, 21-6, before ending the match with a 25-11 victory.
Kalala scored her team-high seven kills on a .148 (7K-3E-27TA) hitting percentage. She also provided two digs in the loss. Sutton finished with a kill and two digs in excess of her assists. Freshman defensive specialist
Venessa Caballero (San Dimas, Calif.) scored two of the Griffins' three aces, while junior outside hitter
