Griffins Come Together In First CACC Matchup, Defeat Bloomfield College

Philadelphia, Pa. - (9/8/2018) – Freshman midfielder Madison Taylor (Bensalem, Pa.) knocked down two goals in today's first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup of the season as Chestnut Hill College defeated Bloomfield College by a 2-0 final. Freshman forward Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.), junior forward Nicole Cahill (Glendora, N.J) and Taylor connected on both of the Griffins' second half goals, providing junior goalkeeper Leah Peshkin (Haddon Heights, N.J.) with enough insurance to earn her first collegiate shutout.

Chestnut Hill College (2-1, 1-0) and Bloomfield College (1-3, 0-1) had their opportunities to gain an advantage in the first period, but they were denied by spectacular saves on both ends of the pitch. At 22:04, junior midfielder Sabrina Shinkowitz (Stratford, N.J) was awarded a penalty kick, but her strike to the far right was met by the hands of the Bears' keeper. Then with less than ten minutes left (35:36), freshman midfielder Carolyn Haskell (York, Pa.) made a heroic move, intercepting an open goal strike, before clearing the ball to the Griffins' offensive end.

Almost 11 minutes into the second half (55:59), Taylor, Jimenez, and Cahill found the perfect formula to defeat their opponent. Jimenez positioned herself in the far right corner, the ball into the box, where Cahill's deflection located Taylor's feet. Taylor finished the job, knocking it into the back of the net, resulting in the first tally of the day, 1-0. The goal was satisfying, but not enough for the Scarlet and Gold to feel comfortable. So at 70:58, the trio banned together one more time on the opposite side of the field, replicating the same game scoring play, 2-0. Bloomfield College attempted to redeem themselves by scrambling for shots in the last five minutes, but Peshkin met the all of them and secured the 2-0 win.

Sophomore forward Brigid Dwyer (Brick, N.J) led the Bloomfield College logging five shots while sophomore midfielder Imani Young (Berlin, N.J.) and reserve senior midfielder Mia Her (Olathe, Kansas) followed with three shots each. Senior goalkeeper Jessica Larson (Delran, N.J) reported five saves.

Taylor headlined for Chestnut Hill College in today's contest with two goals (2 shots). Jimenez and Cahill both recorded two assists, along with three and five shots, respectively. Sophomore forward Gabby Fanfarillo (Glassboro, N.J) and Shinkowitz both logged three shots as well. Peshkin (2-1) made a game-high 10 saves in the win.

Chestnut Hill College will continue CACC play on Wednesday, September 12, as they travel to Georgian Court University for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
