Philadelphia, Pa. – (9/8/2018) – Overtime was required to settle today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest versus Bloomfield College as a scoreless regulation precipitated an extra frame. There, Chestnut Hill College emerged the victor with 56 seconds (99:04) remaining as junior midfielder
Pedro Dutra (Passos, Brazil) provided a dramatic conclusion to the affair with a perfect strike to a corner restart, 1-0. The Griffins outshot the Bears 16-11 and played solid defense for the duration of the affair as sophomore goalkeeper
Sergio Hernandez (Ossining, N.Y.) (2-2) needed only three saves to record his first collegiate shutout.
A bit of foreshadowing, Chestnut Hill College (2-2, 1-0) targeted Dutra for their first two shots of the affair. Unfortunately, despite a 9-6 shooting advantage, the Griffins were unable to crack the Bloomfield College (0-3, 0-1) defense. The Scarlet and Gold defense was just as impressive, denying the Bears a single first half scoring opportunity. In the second half, play evened out, but provided no conclusion as both sides were unsuccessful on four attempts. The extra period saw Bloomfield College have a chance (92:01), before a pair of strikes from junior defenseman
Paris Bruhn (Horst Holstein, Germany) were brushed aside by the visitor's defense. Fortunately, a late corner kick opportunity provided the dramatic conclusion as senior midfielder
Tales Domingues (Sao Paulo, Brazil) played the restart to an unmarked Dutra, whose mid-pitch strike served as the game-winning-goal in a 1-0 final.
Junior midfielder Bryan Medina (Dover, N.J.) led the Bears with three shots. Freshman goalkeeper Robert Kornel (Berlin, Germany) (0-3) made six saves in the loss.
Dutra totaled a team-high five shots, while sophomore forward
Miguel Marra (Ossining, N.Y.) (3 shots), freshman midfielder
David Cortez (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) (2) and senior forward
Jason Doherty (Letterkenny Donegal, Ireland) (2) had their chances as well. With the win, Hernandez improved to 2-2 on the season.
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, September 11, when they visit Georgian Court University for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
