Lakewood, N.J. – (9/10/2018) – Tonight's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition brought Chestnut Hill College to Georgian Court University (GCU), where the Lions welcomed the Griffins with three first half goals and an eventual 5-3 demise. Senior forward
Jason Doherty (Letterkenny Donegal, Ireland) scored the first Scarlet and Gold goal on a penalty kick conversion that broke the home team's opening scoring streak at 29:44 (3-1), senior midfielder
Tales Domingues (Sao Paulo, Brazil) deposited a restart at 57:56 (4-2), and sophomore forward
Andrew Thompson (Galloway, N.J.) rebounded a strike from junior defenseman
Michael Roscioli (Turnersville, N.J.) at 85:17, but the Griffin goals were not enough to keep pace with GCU.
GCU (4-1, 2-0) set the tone for the affair with a 13-8 first half shooting edge that precipitated tallies at 11:15 (1-0), 22:02 (2-0), and 27:30 (3-0); the first of the Lion goals was long serve from freshman defenseman Francisco Corral (North Plainfield, N.J.) to senior defenseman Quentin Bouly (Lyon, France), while sophomore forward Joel Quist (Old Bridge, N.J.) assisted on the next two. Quist first set up junior forward Javel Dawkins (Stratford, Conn.) with a heel pass at 22:02, before locating sophomore midfielder Louis Silva (Union, N.J.) with a long cross at 27:30. At 29:44, a Lion foul in the goal box rewarded Chestnut Hill College (2-3, 1-1) with a penalty kick, which Doherty promptly converted to decrease the spread to 3-1.
The first half ended by that measure, but early in the second half GCU increased the gap to 4-1 (56:24) with a one-timed cross by Silva. Domingues negated the Lion tally a little more than a minute later (57:56), when he put a direct kick to the upper left corner of the goal, 4-2. Afterwards, the scoring settled until Quist collected and scored a loose ball at 73:31 that gave the Lions a 5-2 advantage. Thompson's tally came 12 minutes later (5-3, 85:17), but it would be the Griffins last strike other than a shot from junior midfielder
Pedro Dutra (Passos, Brazil) that sailed wide at 87:24.
GCU, who owned a 25-13 shot advantage, was led by four shots apiece from Silva and junior defenseman Daniel Chochlinski (Ratoath, Ireland). Six others recorded two shots or more. Sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Hickey (Dublin, Ireland) made five saves in the win (4-0).
Dutra led Chestnut Hill College with five shots. Domingues scored on the second of his two shots, while Doherty and Thompson scored on their only strikes. Sophomore goalkeeper
Sergio Hernandez (Ossining, N.Y.) made eight saves in the loss (2-3).
Chestnut Hill College returns home to host Concordia College (NY) in a 3:00 p.m. CACC contest at Victory Field #1 on Saturday, September 15.
