Keyon Butler (Chester, Pa.) headlined the Griffins' showing at Dominican College this afternoon as the Chargers shot 53.0% (35-of-66) from the floor and 72.2% (13-of-18) from the free throw line in a 92-74 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over the Chestnut Hill College. Butler's six field goals (6-of-11, .545) and nine free throws (9-of-12, .750) led the Scarlet and Gold (21 points); he also recorded five rebounds and three assists in the contest.
Chestnut Hill College (3-10, 0-4) gave Dominican College (9-3, 4-0) a 17-point head start as the Griffins failed to record a point in the opening five minutes of the contest. It was a Butler jumper at 14:50 (17-2) that ended the Chargers' opening run. Dominican College gradually grew their lead to a 29-point, 53-24, halftime advantage. In the second half, the deficit increase to as many as 34 points, 83-49 (8:07), before the Scarlet and Gold pushed back with a 25-9 run to the finish, 92-74.
Junior guard Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) led four Chargers in double figures with 18 points. He also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in addition to his three assists. His classmate, guard Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) and senior forward Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.) both recorded 13 points; the former also recorded two rebounds, five assists, and three steals, while the latter additionally provided two rebounds and an assist. Junior guard Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) was the fourth Charger in double figures with 10 points on top of six rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.
It was Butler's second game of 20 or more points this season and it was supported by 10 points, four rebounds, four assists, and a steal from junior guard
Billy Miller VI (Pine Hill, N.J.). Chestnut Hill College also received an impressive performance from senior forward
Tony Toplyn Jr. (Sicklerville, N.J.), who finished the affair with eight points, six rebounds, an assist, a career-high five blocks, and a steal.
