Redhawks Sink Griffins with Late First-Half Goal

LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. - (10/10/2019) – Chestnut Hill College dropped a non-conference clash Thursday night at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School Football Stadium against Roberts Wesleyan College, 1-0. The Redhawks capitalized on a late first-half goal to push the Griffins' winless streak to seven.

After a mostly nondescript opening half of play, substitutes combined to break the deadlock for the Redhawks (6-2-1) with just 12 seconds remaining before the break. Senior forward Tiffany Melendez (Grand Island, N.Y.) launched a cross back post to junior midfielder Allison Parsels (Rochester, N.Y.), who settled it, fired and scored. Robert Wesleyan College picked up the offense in the second half, attempting 17 shots, including a header off the crossbar from senior forward Taylor Rutland (Kent, N.Y.). The team couldn't add another, but it kept a clean sheet to earn the one-goal win over the Griffins (2-8).

The Redhawks tallied 24 shots in the game, including 11 attempts on goal. They were led in both of those categories by Rutland, who had seven shots and two on goal. Senior defender Sarah Giancursio (Penfield, N.Y.) also had two shots on goal. Senior Kelsey Brinkel (Rochester, N.Y.) started the game in net, while junior Madison Lamarche (Cohoes, N.Y.) was the goalkeeper during the second half. They each tallied one save.

Junior goalkeeper Paris Banks (Philadelphia, Pa.) started for the fourth time in the last five games, recording 10 saves in her 90-minute effort. Sophomore forward Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.) and sophomore defender Haley Oneil (Langhorne, Pa.) tallied the Griffins' two shots on goal. The team posted four shots in total against the Redhawks.

Chestnut Hill College returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 12 on the road against Post University. The game will be live streamed on the CACC Network.
