Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (10/22/2019) – Chestnut Hill College fell in a Tuesday night Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest against Wilmington University, 9-0. The conference leaders got their breakthrough late in the first half and ran away with the win thanks to seven goals in the second half.
Senior defender Joe Bell (Surrey, England) opened the scoring in the 30th minute after tapping in a low-driven free kick service from junior midfielder Ben Jordan (London, England). The Wildcats tacked on a goal right before the halftime whistle thanks to a penalty kick conversion from junior midfielder Shawn Genus (St. Catherine, Jamaica) to make it 2-0 at the break. Wilmington University came out flying in the second half, scoring three goals in the first 11 minutes, including two from Jordan. A trio of subs scored in the late minutes of the game before Bell capped off the 9-0 result with his second set piece goal of the game.
The Wildcats' nine goals were tallied from seven different players. Five of those goals came from non-starters. The team rattled off 12 attempts on goal off of 27 shots, including 18 shots in the second half. Alongside braces from Bell and Jordan, Wilmington College also received a game-high in assists from senior defender Keith Sanderson (Black River, Jamaica).
Chestnut Hill College goalkeeper Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) made three saves in his eighth complete-game performance of the season. Junior forward Miguel Marra (Ossining, N.Y.) led the Griffins with two shots, one of which was on goal. Senior defender Mo Ehmer (Staines, England) also recorded a shot on target.
The Griffins host Senior Day in their next outing at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 26 against Dominican College.
