Chestnut Hill College Seniors Shine for 28-11 Win Over Caldwell University

Conshohocken, Pa. – (10/26/2019) – Chestnut Hill College continued its winning ways with a convincing 28-11 victory on Senior Day against Caldwell University. The Griffins put up 312 yards of total offense and scored 20 second-half points to run away from the Cougars on Friday night at A.A. Garthwaite Stadium.

Chestnut Hill College quarterback Michael Marino (Blue Bell, Pa.) opened the scoring on his team's second drive of the first quarter with a 66-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Colby Goldsmith (Phoenixville, Pa.). The two connected again for the two-point conversion to make it an 8-0 Griffins lead. Caldwell University got on the board with a 30-yard field goal in the first quarter, but was denied a chance to take the lead after the Griffins forced a turnover on downs inside their own 10-yard line at the end of the first half.

The Griffins capitalized in the second half with a two-yard score from freshman running back Luis Rivera Turell (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) midway through the third quarter and a 26-yard Marino touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Domoree Hill (Bethlehem, Pa.) at the start of the fourth to push the lead to 19 points. Senior running back Sef Penson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored on a 15-yard run and the Cougars answered with a 5-yard touchdown run from sophomore running back Armani Bermudez (Newark, N.J.) to close out the 28-11 Chestnut Hill College win.

The Cougars tallied 215 total yards in the defeat, with 101 of those yards coming on the ground from Bermudez. The team's defense forced four turnovers on the night, with freshman defensive back Steven Rose (Montclair, N.J.) recording two interceptions.

Seniors played a critical role on their night for the Griffins. Marino threw for 241 yards and two touchdowns, while Hill caught five passes for 102 yards. Penson was the leading rusher, with 18 carries for 56 yards. The defense was led by sophomore defensive back Ryan Jakeman (Cheltenham, Pa.), who had 13 tackles in the game. In total, the Griffins defense posted four sacks and forced three turnovers.

The Griffins close out their regular season in New York against St. Thomas Aquinas College at 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 2.
