Rochester, N.Y. - (10/30/2019) – Despite outshooting Roberts Wesleyan College 5-4 in the first half, Chestnut Hill College battled from behind for most of the way in a 5-1 loss as the Redhawks got on the scoreboard just 3:34 (1-0) after the opening kickoff. A late first half goal (40:29) from junior forward
Miguel Marra (Ossining, N.Y.) cut the halftime deficit to a single goal, 2-1, but the Griffins hopes of a comeback were quieted early in the second half as Roberts Wesleyan College forged themselves a 4-1 edge with scores at the 54-minute mark (54:00, 3-1) and 61:38 (4-1). Their final goal came in the last minute of play as senior defenseman Jeremiah Ochepo (Nigeria) added the Redhawks' fifth tally at 89:42 (5-1).
Roberts Wesleyan College (9-5-1) scored on their second shot of the affair as senior goalkeeper
Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) stopped a strike from sophomore midfielder Dylan Ruiz (Mexico City, Mexico) (1:56) before senior forward Terrell Spencer (Pickering, Ontario) scored off a Ruiz feed at 3:34 (1-0). Chestnut Hill College (3-8-3) looked to even the contest with strikes from Marra (8:20, 15:53) and senior midfielder
Pedro Dutra (Passos, Brazil) (17:32), but the Redhawks would strike again before the Griffins got on the scoreboard. Roberts Wesleyan College added their second score at 32:52, securing a 2-0 lead on a Ruiz goal off a feed from sophomore forward Alex Perez Vega (Panama City, Panama). Marra's tally followed soon after, reducing the Redhawks' advantage to a single score, 2-1, halfway through the 41
st minute (40:29).
Play reached halftime with Roberts Wesleyan College's 2-1 lead intact. After intermission, a second Perez Vega-Ruiz connection extended the Redhawk lead to 3-1 at the 54-minute mark (54:00). Midway through the 62
nd minute (61:38), they made it 4-1, finally taking advantage of a series of corner kicks with a second Spencer score at 61:38. Later, Ochepo finished a pass from Spencer at 89:42 to push the final margin to four goals, 5-1.
Ruiz (6 shots, 2 goals, 2 assists), Perez Vega (6 shots, 2 assists), and Spencer (5 shots, 2 goals, 1 assist) combined for 17 of Roberts Wesleyan College's 25 shots and 10 of their 11 points. Ochepo scored on his only attempt of the affair. Freshman goalkeeper Jared Gibbons (Johannesburg, South Africa) played a majority of the minutes (84:30) for the Redhawks and earned the win (6-2) with all six of their saves.
Marra and Dutra combined for seven of the Griffins' nine shots with the other two coming off the feet of freshman forward
