Griffins Clipped In Second Overtime, Bethel Ties CACC Contest with Late Second-Half Score

Bronxville, N.Y. - (10/5/2019) – Today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest remained tied, 1-1, after 90 minutes of play as Chestnut Hill College and Concordia College (NY) needed extra time to reach a decision. Play lasted just over 108 minutes (108:32) before reaching a conclusion, unfortunately, it was the Clippers who sent-in the game-winner and captured the league prize in a 2-1 conclusion. Senior defenseman Connor Bethel (Hartsville, Pa.) supplied the Griffins' lone tally, when he completed a serve from sophomore midfielder Mustaf Nuredini (Norristown, Pa.) and tied the contest, 1-1, just before the 73-minute mark (72:56).

A more aggressive Concordia College (6-2, 5-0) attack provided the Clippers an 11-5 shot advantage and a 1-0 lead after the opening 45 minutes. Their goal came during the 25th minute as junior forward Dennis Limani (Norderstedt, Germany) found junior forward Nemanja Zivanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) for a successful strike at 24:12. It would be 48 minutes before Chestnut Hill College (3-4-1, 2-3) had an answer with Bethel tying the contest, 1-1, prior to the 73-minute mark (72:56). It remained knotted for the next 36 minutes, ending in the Clippers' favor thanks to goal from senior defenseman Valmed Marki (Yonkers, N.Y.) at 108:32; 2-1.

Zivanovic led Concordia College with six of their 20 shots. In goal, junior Mikael Varin (Toulouse, France) earned the win (6-2) with three saves.

A dozen (12) different Griffins had a go at the Clipper goal, but Bethel was the only one to record a goal. Junior forward Miguel Marra (Ossining, N.Y.) led the group with five of Chestnut Hill College's 19 strikes. Junior goalkeeper Sergio Hernandez (Ossining, N.Y.) totaled 10 saves in the loss (0-3).

Chestnut Hill College briefly breaks from their CACC schedule to visit Mercy College for a 3:00 p.m. contest on Tuesday, October 8.
