Griffins Suffer 7-0 Setback to Bears

Old Westbury, N.Y. - (10/8/2019) – Chestnut Hill College visited the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) for this afternoon's contest. The Bears welcomed the Griffins with four goals in the opening 20 minutes (2:56, 9:49, 17:27, 19:34) before eventually marking a 7-0 victory. Junior midfielder Marisa Murphy (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded the lone Scarlet and Gold shot, sending a strike wide of the NYIT goal midway through the 65th minute (64:30).
 
NYIT (3-3-2) owned a 17-0 shot advantage in the opening 45:00 and a 12-1 shot advantage in the closing 45:00. The result was an early avalanche of goals as Bear tallies were marked at 2:56 (1-0), 9:49 (2-0), 17:27 (3-0), and 19:34 (4-0). After the opening assault, Chestnut Hill College (2-7) was able to ward off NYIT until the 41st minute as the Bears extended their lead to 5-0 with a tally at 40:32. They added two more goals in the second half, bringing their final margin of victory to 7-0.
 
Sophomore forward Hannah Franco (Islip, N.Y.) led NYIT with five points (2 goals, 1 assist) as one of two Bears to record multiple goals. Graduate defender Kelly Gerdes (Wantagh, N.Y.) was the other, recording her two tallies with only two shots. Meanwhile, sophomore midfielder Maggie Thibault (Baldwin, N.Y.) was the playmaker, providing assists on Bear tallies at 17:27, 19:34, and 60:53. In goal, freshmen Nicole Genis (San Jose, Costa Rica) and Daniella Felicetti (Massapequa, N.Y.) split time; Genis earned the win (2-2-3).

Behind the Scarlet and Gold defense, sophomore Kayla Lombardi (South Amboy, N.J.) made her first appearance of the season in goal. She took the loss (0-1) while recording eight saves.
 
Chestnut Hill College continues their non-conference schedule on Thursday, October 10, when they return to Victory Field #1 to host Roberts Wesleyan College in a 6:00 p.m. contest.
