Chestnut Hill College Closes First Winning Season With Season Sweep of CACC Rival Rams

Philadelphia, Pa. - (11/13/2019) – Chestnut Hill College has had Jefferson's number this season as the Griffins completed their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) sweep of their South Division rival Rams with a 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 27-25, 25-20) triumph in this evening's season finale. The Griffins won the first (25-18), third (27-25), and fourth (25-20) sets of the match, reaching their pinnacle with a .341 (17K-3E-41TA) hitting percentage and a 75% side-out performance in the third frame. Junior outside hitter Corrine Kalala (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led three members of the Scarlet and Gold in double digit kills with 17, while the two others - senior right side Cassie Callahan (St. Louis, Mo.) (16 Kills, 15 assists, 15 digs) and freshman setter Henielys Ramos (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) (13 Kills, 34 assists, 10 Digs) – finished the affair with triple-doubles.

Chestnut Hill College (14-13, 11-8) scored the first two points of the first set and never looked back, pacing Jefferson (17-10, 12-6) to a 25-18 opening victory. Unfortunately, the Rams recovered in the second set, gradually pulling away from the Griffins for 25-22 win. In a well-played third set, the Scarlet and Gold shined brighter as their .341 hitting percentage and 75% side-out effort that included four kills apiece from Kalala, Ramos, and Callahan. The extended-set victory inspired Chestnut Hill College to a decided 25-20 win in the fourth, and final, frame.

Junior outside hitter Lauren Kloos (Kings Park, N.Y.) led three Rams in double digit kills, scoring 22 of her 23 points on the attack. Meanwhile, senior libero Alexis Leddy (Reading, Pa.) led three Rams in double digit digs with 17. Sophomore setter Molly Hand (Perkiomenville, Pa.) offered 49 assists, two aces, six digs, and a pair of block assists to the Jefferson cause.

Kalala added two digs and a block assist to her 17 kills. Callahan's first-ever triple-double was a spectacular performance that included a season-high 16 kills on a .306 (16K-5E-36TA) hitting percentage, 15 assists, and 15 digs. Ramos was equally impressive with 13 kills, a season-high 34 assists, and 10 digs. Senior outside hitter Reily Byxbee (Madison, Conn.) and freshman defensive specialist Bianca Diaz (Humacao, Puerto Rico) joined Callahan and Ramos in double digits digs with 12 and 11, respectively.

Chestnut Hill College finishes 2019 with a 14-13 overall record and an 11-8 CACC standing; marking the program's first winning season and matching the Griffins' highest single-season (2014: 14-16) and conference (2016: 11-8) win totals.
