Tigers Topple Griffins With Early Second-Half Tally

Philadelphia, Pa. - (11/5/2019) – Chestnut Hill College traveled across town on Roosevelt Boulevard to meet Holy Family University for this afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition. The Tigers owned a slight 3-1 shot advantage and a 4-2 corner kick edge in the opening 45 minutes, but set the tone in the latter frame with the contest's lone goal; the tally came just after the 57-minute mark (57:07) and withstood the remaining 23 minutes as the Griffins were denied a shot in the second half. Senior defenseman Paris Bruhn (Horst Holstein, Germany) recorded the Scarlet and Gold's only shot of the affair, sending a strike to the awaiting hands of senior goalkeeper Mark Tobin (Philadelphia, Pa.) during the 39th minute of play (38:09).

There were only four shots in the first half despite six corner kick opportunities. Holy Family University (10-7-1, 8-4) had the first chances, earning a pair of corner kicks (9:19, 9:53) in the opening 10 minutes. But, their only shot from the restarts sailed high and they would not offer another until a pair of strikes met senior goalkeeper Frank Maniscalco (Philadelphia, Pa.) on the other side of the 30-minute mark (30:49, 36:20). Chestnut Hill College (4-9-3, 3-6-2) had their chance soon after as Bruhn sandwiched his shot between a pair of Scarlet and Gold corner kicks (37:57, 38:18). Unfortunately, nothing came of the opportunities and the contest reached halftime in a 0-0 stalemate.

After intermission, a refocused Holy Family University established the tone as they fired several early shots before sophomore midfielder Georg Montag (Philadelphia, Pa.) redirected a cross from the far left to the back of the Chestnut Hill College at 57:07, 1-0. With the lead in hand, the Tigers successfully kept the ball out of the Griffins' talons as the Scarlet and Gold were unable to issue a shot in the latter 45 minutes.

Montag took two of the Tigers' 11 shots to score the contest's lone tally, but freshman midfielder Dakota Taylor (Willow Grove, Pa.) led Holy Family University in strikes with four. Sophomore midfielder Joel Richardson (Bridgetown, Barbados) provided the assist on Montag's goal and also recorded two shots. In goal, Tobin preserved his shutout win (10-7-1) with one save.

For Chestnut Hill College, Maniscalco recorded four saves in the loss (4-6-3).

Chestnut Hill College concludes their 2019 season on Friday, November 8, when they welcome Georgian Court University to Victory Field #1 for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
