Philadelphia, Pa. - (12/21/2019) – Flying high after a midweek Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory (W, 70-67) over Holy Family University, Chestnut Hill College evened their league record at 2-2 with today's 103-82 triumph over cross-city rival
the University of the Sciences (USciences). The Griffins took advantage of strong perimeter shooting performances from freshman guard
Conor Regan (Mullica Hill, N.J.) and sophomore guard
Juston Bailey (Riverdale, Md.) - who combined to hit 8-of-13 (.615) from three-point range – and a 22-point, 11-rebound double-double from
sophomore forward
Keyon Butler (Chester, Pa.). In the high-scoring effort, six Griffins scored nine points or more and the Scarlet and Gold shot 50% or better from the field (37-of-65, .569), from three (12-of-24, .500), and from the free throw line (17-of-24; 70.8%) in their second straight league-win of the season.
Chestnut Hill College (2-10, 2-2) gradually grew a their first half lead to as many as 14 points as freshman guard
Scottie Spann Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa.) knocked down a three-point shot to give the Griffins a 14-point, 27-13, lead midway (10:53) through the period. The Scarlet and Gold sustained a comfortable advantage on the backend, looking to Butler, Regan, and sophomore forward
Amir Warrick (Washington, DC) to keep the Devils at arm's length for the halftime break; 48-36.
After intermission, USciences managed to stay competitive until the midway point of the second half as Chestnut Hill College emerged from another 14-point, 72-58, spread to lead by as many as 24 points, 97-73 (3:21), late in the game. Bailey and Regan both hit 3-of-3 from long range in the second half, headlining an impressive 8-of-12 (.667) closing team effort from three-point distance. The Griffins outside game was complimented by the physical paint play of Butler (12 points) and Pitts (11), who combined for 23 points in the concluding frame.
Freshman forward Connor Murphy (Chester, N.J.) led USciences with 27 points, 12 rebounds, an assist, two blocks, and two steals. The Devil backcourt was highlighted by the efforts of junior Paddy Casey (Scranton, Pa.) and sophomore Sean Simon (Philadelphia, Pa.), who joined Murphy in double figures with 11 and 12 points, respectively. Casey ran point for the Devils, recording seven assists.
Butler and Regan both finished with 22 points; the former recorded his first double-double of the season thanks to six offensive rebounds and offered an 8-of-9 (.889) performance at the free throw line, while the latter paired his career-high with six rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and a steal. Bailey scored all 15 of his points from long range as he hit 5-of-7 (.714) from three-point range.
Sophomore guard Trevonn Pitts (Wyncote, Pa.) was also 5-of-7 (.714) from the field; he hit the only three he took (1-of-1, 1.000) and hit three free throws (3-of-7, .429) en route to his third straight double-digit scoring performance; 14 points. Ahmad Bickley (Philadelphia, Pa.) dished out 10 assists, fueling Chestnut Hill College's efficient shooting. He also recorded nine points, three rebounds, and three steals.
