Aston, Pa. – (3/14/2019) – Poor field conditions sent Chestnut Hill College to the Maplezone Sports Institute in Aston, Pennsylvania, for this afternoon's doubleheader with East Stroudsburg University. Junior pitcher
Kaley Wise (Hamilton, N.J.) dueled with freshman pitcher Mikayla Pourby (Binghamton, N.Y.) in the opener as the Warriors stole a 1-0 victory before sweeping the doubleheader with a 6-2 win in the latter affair. Four different Griffins recorded a hit apiece in the first game. In the second game, both freshman centerfielder
Devon Horner (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) (2-for-4, R) and senior left fielder
Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) (2-for-3, R, RBI) recorded multiple hits.
East Stroudsburg University (6-10) scored the first run of the twin bill in the third inning of the opener. Unfortunately, for Chestnut Hill College (4-6) the best opportunity to score was in the top of the third inning, when a Warrior error, a single senior second baseman
Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.), a fielder's choice off the bat of freshman designated player
Victoria Grillo (Staten Island, N.Y.), and a single from junior third baseman
Cailey Stevenson (Burbank, Calif.) put a pair of Griffins in scoring position. Unfortunately, a strike out and a fly ball to centerfield ended the Scarlet and Gold rally. Wise (3-2) allowed one run on six hits and four walks, while striking out five Warriors.
The Scarlet and Gold sought revenge with the first run of game two as a two-out Warrior error, a passed ball, and a double from senior catcher
Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth, N.J.) gave the Griffins a 1-0 advantage in the third inning. But East Stroudsburg University used a pair of one-out singles and a two-out triple to double Chestnut Hill College's tally, 2-1. In the fourth inning, a solo home run from Magee tied the affair, 2-2, unfortunately the Warriors answered again in the bottom of the frame. This time, four runs on three hits and an error gave the home team the insurance they needed to hold off the Griffins. Magee also tripled in the sixth inning, while Horner singled in the first and fifth frames.
Chestnut Hill College begins their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule at home on Saturday, March 16, when they host Felician University in a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
