Philadelphia, Pa. – (3/19/2019) – Chestnut Hill College visited Jefferson for a pair of highly-competitive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) this afternoon. The contests were completely different in nature as the Griffins prevailed 13-8 in eight innings, before the Lady Rams got revenge in a 1-0 pitchers' duel. The Scarlet and Gold totaled 18 hits in the first game; junior second baseman Cailey Stevenson (Burbank, Calif.) connected for four of them and drove in two runs. In game two, senior Nichole Eberhard (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the arm for Chestnut Hill College, striking out four over six innings, but earning the loss (1-3) on Jefferson's one-out walk off.
 
The  Chestnut Hill College (6-8, 2-2) game-one rally started in the fifth inning as a leadoff double from senior right fielder Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.), turned into a run with a couple of ground outs, 5-2. It escalated in the sixth inning, where the Griffins took a 6-5 lead with a leadoff walk, four hits, and a Jefferson (6-8, 1-3) error. The Rams evened it out in the bottom of the frame, 6-6, and both sides scored two runs in the seventh inning to put the game into extra innings with an 8-8 stalemate. In the top of the eighth inning, Winn led off the at-bat with a beam ball. Freshman centerfielder Devon Horner (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) singled through the left side to move the runner to second base, but it took an out before a single from Messina to score a run, 9-8. The Scarlet and Gold added four more runs on singles from Grillo, Sauer, and Stevenson, 13-8. Sauer (2-for-4), Winn (2-for-5), Messina (2-for-5), Grillo (2-for-3), Stevenson (4-for-5), and senior left fielder Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) (3-for-4) recorded multiple hits. Grillo and Winn were the top run produces with four and three runs-batted-in (RBI), respectively. Each of the Griffins' three pitchers went two and two-thirds (2.2) innings; junior pitcher Kaley Wise (Hamilton, N.J.) was the best of the bunch, holding the Lady Rams to a pair of unearned runs on two hits to earn the win (4-3).
 
In game two, Eberhard went out-for-out with junior Stephanie Pepper (Toms River, N.J.) as the contest reached the seventh inning without a score. Unfortunately, Jefferson used their last-ups to score the game-winning run on a leadoff walk, a sacrifice bunt, and a pair of singles, 1-0. Winn (1-for-3) and freshman first baseman Lily Reid (Texas City, Texas) (1-for-2) recorded the only Chestnut Hill College hits; the former's led off the game, while the latter's came with one out in the fourth inning. Unfortunately, neither got beyond second base as Pepper struck out 11 Griffins in the win (4-1).  
 
Chestnut Hill College continues a busy week tomorrow, Wednesday, March 20, when they visit West Chester University for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
