Philadelphia, Pa. - (4/10/2019) – Chestnut Hill College took two games in a 9-5 (GM1) and 4-3 (GM2) sweep against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Holy Family University. The Griffins scoring big in the second (4) and third inning (4) set them apart in the first game, but the second game the Griffins relied on their early scoring efforts in the first (1) and third inning (3) to carry them to victory. Senior outfielder
Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.) record her 115th career hit in the bottom of the third inning making her the program's all-time record holder in career hits.
In game one, Chestnut Hill College (12-18, 7-9 CACC) posted one run in the first inning, but a double to left center from junior second baseman
Cailey Stevenson (Burbank, California) brought home two players (3-0) that gave them the spark they needed. Sophomore outfielder
Devon Horner (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) followed Stevenson and singled up the middle to push both senior third baseman
Lily Winn (Los Angeles, California) and Stevenson past home plate (5-0). The third inning mirrored the previous with the Griffins adding four more runs, 9-0. The Tigers attempted to make a comeback logging four runs in the fourth inning and one in the sixth inning, but they were held off by the Scarlet and Gold's early advantage (9-5).
Magee recorded her 115
th collegiate hit with a triple to left field (3-2) in the third inning of game two; the hit knocked in the third Chestnut Hill College run of the affair. Magee eventually scored off of a sacrifice fly by senior catcher
Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth, N.J.), 4-2. This ended the Griffins' scoring for the night and fortunately the home team's defensive held Holy Family University (2-32, 2-14 CACC) to only one run by the end.
Chestnut Hill College will celebrate their seniors and continue conference play at home on Saturday, April 13. Start time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
