Winn Knocks In Two For Game-One Victory, Records Milestone Hit In Game Two versus Cougars

Caldwell, N.J. – (4/7/2019) – Chestnut Hill College collected a valuable Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win with their 7-4 game-one win at Caldwell University, but were left to celebrate the 100th-career hit for senior third baseman Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.) in the game two as the Cougars split the twin bill with their 12-8 victory. Winn contributed to a four-run fourth inning that won the opener with her two-run infield single and surpassed the 100-hit plateau with her two-hit (2-for-4) performance in game two.

Winn recorded her 100th collegiate hit with a double in the third inning of game two; the extra-base hit knocked in the second Chestnut Hill College (10-18, 5-9) run of the affair and helped the Griffins tie the contest at 4-4. Unfortunately, Caldwell University (18-14, 11-3) reciprocated with two runs in the bottom of the inning, 6-4, and outscored the Scarlet and Gold 6-4 the rest of the way in a 12-8 final. Winn, sophomore centerfielder Devon Horner (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) (2-for-4), and junior second baseman Cailey Stevenson (Burbank, Calif.) (2-for-3) all recorded two hits in the loss; Horner (2-for-4, 1R) and senior right fielder Alex Sauer (New Milford, N.J.) (0-for-3, 1R) each knocked in a pair of runs.

In game one, Chestnut Hill College tied the affair with a four-run fourth inning and won the contest with a two-run fifth. Caldwell University owned an early 4-0 lead with three runs in the second inning and another in the third. In the fourth inning, a one-out home run from senior first baseman Kaya Swanek (Pittston, Pa.), 4-1, a walk to senior left fielder Ariel Magee (North Cape May, N.J.), a double to right field from senior catcher Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth. N.J.), 4-2, walks to Sauer and Stevenson, and a two-run Winn single to short evened the contest at 4-4. The winning runs came in the fifth inning, where two-out singles from Sauer and freshman designated player Lily Reid (Texas City, Texas) provided the Griffins a 6-4 advantage. A Riotte solo shot extended the final margin to 7-4. Sophomore Kaley Wise (Hamilton, N.J.) earned the win (6-6) despite allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks. She also struck out five. Sophomore Gabrielle Merryman (Sewell, N.J.) earned her first collegiate save (1) with three innings of two-hit relief.

Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Wednesday, April 10, when they host Holy Family University in a 2:30 p.m. twin bill.
