th-career hit for senior third baseman
Lily Winn (Los Angeles, Calif.) in the game two as the Cougars split the twin bill with their 12-8 victory. Winn contributed to a four-run fourth inning that won the opener with her two-run infield single and surpassed the 100-hit plateau with her two-hit (2-for-4) performance in game two.
Winn recorded her 100
th collegiate hit with a double in the third inning of game two; the extra-base hit knocked in the second Chestnut Hill College (10-18, 5-9) run of the affair and helped the Griffins tie the contest at 4-4. Unfortunately, Caldwell University (18-14, 11-3) reciprocated with two runs in the bottom of the inning, 6-4, and outscored the Scarlet and Gold 6-4 the rest of the way in a 12-8 final. Brielle Riotte (Elizabeth. N.J.), 4-2, walks to Sauer and Stevenson, and a two-run Winn single to short evened the contest at 4-4. The winning runs came in the fifth inning, where two-out singles from Sauer and freshman designated player
Lily Reid (Texas City, Texas) provided the Griffins a 6-4 advantage. A Riotte solo shot extended the final margin to 7-4. Sophomore
Kaley Wise (Hamilton, N.J.) earned the win (6-6) despite allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks. She also struck out five. Sophomore
Gabrielle Merryman (Sewell, N.J.) earned her first collegiate save (1) with three innings of two-hit relief.
